Competency Reflection

Domain I School Community Leadership


Competency 1-The principal knows how to shape campus culture by facilitating the
development, articulation, implementation and stewardship of a vision of learning
that is shared and supported by the school community.
Reflection: I feel that I do not have a clear perspective as to what this in tells, my
campus does not really feel a need to shape campus culture, everyone pretty much
has their own aspect of what the campus vision should be, and the principal is really
trying to be a piece marker.

Competency 2- The principal knows how to communicate and collaborate with all
members of the school community, respond to diverse interests and needs and
mobilize resources to promote student success.
Reflection: This competency was a little difficulty to follow, because there is very
little collaboration between community and school.
Competency 3- The principal knows how to act with integrity, fairness and in an
ethical and legal manner.
Reflection: I really had no problem with this competency; our campus principals
tries to be fair and is about ethical. From what I see he is more caught in the middle
in a lot of situations on campus.
Domain II Instructional leadership

Competency 4- The principal knows how to facilitate the design and implementation
of curricula and strategic plans that enhance teaching and learning: Ensure
alignment of curriculum, instruction, resources and assessment; and promote the
use of varied assessments to measure student

Reflection: Competency four, was easy to understand, because as the curriculum


designer for ELA, I have had the opportunity to work with the administrative team in
the Curriculum Department for the District.

Competency 5- The principal knows how to advocate, nurture and sustain an


instructional program and a campus culture that are conductive to student learning
and staff professional growth.

Reflection: Sometimes the instructional programs on the campus are not


conductive to the student needs. There has been a time when a program was
provide for the teachers to improve instruction methods, and the program was a
waste of time and money. As principal we need to be more minds of what out there
for improving student learning and staff professional growth, everything is not for
everybody, know your demographic.

Competency 6- The principal knows how to implement a staff evaluation and


development system to improve the performance of all staff members. Select and
implement appropriate models for supervision and staff development and apply the
legal requirements for personnel management.
Reflection: The principal has allowed me to implement this competency first hand.
I have completed walk-throughs, classroom observations in several subject arrears. I
have arranged professional development. Therefore, competency six was really a
part of my job duties as Department Chair and Lead Teacher.

Competency 7- The principal knows how to apply organizational, decision-making


and problem-solving skills to ensure an effective learning environment.

Reflection: There were some, miscommunication involved with understanding the


competency. Sometimes when there are too many delegating on behalf of the
decision-making process you can get lose.
Domain III Administrative Leadership
Competency 8- The principal knows how to apply principles of effective leadership
and management in relation to campus budgeting, personnel, resource utilization,
financial management and technology use.

Reflection: This was the most difficult of all the competences, because no one
wanted to speak of money therefore, it was very hard to understand what my goals
would be aligning this competency. Even when attempting to take my test the
budget aspect were not my strong area, you read one thing about school financial
and see another and my mentor was no help at all. I think he confused me even
more.

Competency 9- The principal knows how to apply principles of leadership and


management to the campus physical plant and support system to ensure a safe and
effective learning environment.

Reflection: I havent a clue as to how this competency works or should be


implemented, on my campus the custodial staff tell you what they are not going to
do for the week. An you get an email stating to put your own trash and clean your
floors. The children are allowed to deface school property with no consequence.
