Content outline
The product is a film trailer for the story Night School which is a book already
which I am choosing to adapt. The book is very popular already so I believe that
it should be a good one to make into a film because it already has that strong fan
base already. Books that have been turned in to films already that had a large
audience base before the films relaces show how having a pre-existing audience
for the book can help in to thrive and do well in the cinemas, examples that you
could choose from would be the Harry potter series, the Twilight saga, the Lord of
the Rings and other such books like that, also examples of magazines being
turned into films show again how a pre-existing audience base can help to
increase the takings at the book office and the audience figures for the film. From
my research I found out that good promotion of a product can help lead to its
success as well as being a good product, films such as John carter show how
even if a film is good, it cannot succeed in the box office and achieve the
audience figures that they need unless they promote the product/ film enough
and in the right ways. I will only be making the trailer for the film and I think that
thanks to my knowledge of the book due to the fact that I have read it many a
times and the fact that I am of the age group this product will be aged at I am a
good person to relate and show the product of how everyone would want it to be
if they read the book. I can help to turn there fanatics in to a real product.
The story the book starts off with Allie the main character having broken into her
school with her friend, they are being naughty, the police enter the building and
Allie and her friend try to make a mad rush for safety, she ends up locking
herself in a supply closet where she starts to have a panic attack before the
police finally find her. This is the third time she has been kicked by the police and
this is one time to many for her parents who decide to take all her stuff of her
and are sending her to a new school where she does not know. When she gets to
the new school it soon becomes evident to her that it is not what is seems, she is
surprised that a posh school such as this should take her in with her history and
how little money her parent have. She falls for two different boys but starts going
out with one of them, she becomes best friends with a girl called Jo, she joins a
new group and all seems well, until one day after school has finished and she is
just chilling out with Jo, another of her friends runs in, people have got hurt. Soon
after there is a ball, her boyfriend is a little to run with her when she is drunk and
the other boy who she likes saves her, there is a big sound and the two boys
leave her outside, someone runs past her in the dark, so she legs it and falls over
the dead boys of her friend who had run in to the study to warn them. Things
start going downhill from then on. She is slightly haunted over the sudden death
of her friend and when she walks back into the building to see where everyone
else is, the great hall is on fire. They all desperately try to put the flames down
all the while trying to figure out where the missing students have got to. After
this event Allie is suspicious of everyone, the teachers are covering up the death
of her friend as suicide, she starts to retreat from people, but she still want to
find out more.
She embarks on a quest to find out what is going on, lots of bad and good things
come of this including finding out that she has a grandmother unlike what her

parents had always told her which is that they were not longer with them. She
starts to learn what the school is really about and who has been doing all this
bad stuff to the school. One night she finds a stranger in her room, they quickly
flee but from now on she must have 2 boys looking after her like guards until
they know that she is perfectly safe. One ni9ght it all comes to a conclusion
when she wakes up with a bad feeling, she goes out of the room to smell fire,
and she quickly runs to try save everyone, when she goes to an upper floor to
see if there is anyone up there she finds her brother touching the place. One look
at her and he flees, the next thing that she knows her and the boys are trying to
get all the students out to safety, but at the last minute it seems as though
someone is in the library and she and some others rush in to try and save them,
this nearly kills her as the smoke in there is worse than every were else. She is
brought back to like just about but she is badly injured, this is where the book
ends.
Just from my little retailing of the story you can see that it is jam packed with
action with a little bit of romance, in the book there are a lot more romance
screens then I have stated but to paraphrase I left more of the little ones out. I
believe that with this story people with be able to connect with the characters
and the situations that the writer has creatively imagined.

Target audience
The gender that this film is more targeted towards is females, this is because the
type of story that it is. I looked at similar types of films on the internet and all of
them had a more prominent female audience to them because typically romance
films are more targeted towards the ladys then the men because men dont
typically like to watch love stories. Also because of the similarities in target
gender for my film with similar films means that the people who go and watch
them would most likely want to watch this.
The age of the people who would most likely want to watch my show is 14 to 24.
This is the chosen age group because there ages match closely to the ages that
the characters will be in the film, this means that they will be more likely and it
should be a lot easier for them to connect to their target audience. It will allow
the audience to connect to the character better because they can imagine them
in their place or as them, if you were of a higher age you will find it harder to
connect as well with a character that is supposed to be a lot younger then you
because you cannot image what it would be like to be in the position. It is also
key to a films success that the target audience be able to connect to the
character, situation or place. When I did the 2 surveys in both instances they
believed that this was the correct audience for the film.
The social class of the people that would watch the film trailer would be people
within the groups C1, C2, D and E. The reason that I have picked C1 and C2 as
the social class is because kids within the younger ages of my target age group
would have to have their parents take them to the cinema because they wont
likely have the money to take themselves, also they might decide to go out as a
family, also people in the higher ages of the target age might also rest within this
group because they would not have been enough time for them to try and climb
higher on the social group stands by the time that are the highest age in the
group because typically people who are in the higher social groups have heard

but well paid jobs something that takes years of hard work and studying to get to
so they would still reside within the lower classes. I chose group d because
student might have a part time job and so they would reside within this group
and also students who do not have a job would reside within the group E and this
also accounts for the younger ages as well. People who are in the higher social
groups will typically be older, thus the film would not be suited to them and so I
would not need to make sure that the film trailer applied to them as well.
I believe that the people I have outlined as my target audience would be
interested in my product because I will have a good mix of action and romance
which is a good mix to have with the target audience. Also because of the
similarity in style between my product and other ones that I have found, the
people who like them show like mine as well but I think that mine will be slightly
better than theirs as often they stray from the story but I will try to stick to it.
The book that I am turning into a film so that I can make a trailer already has a
big target audience so this means that when the product comes out there should
already be an existing target audience and as one of the fans of the book already
I think that I can help to bring across the book just the way that the other fans
would want it to because I know all the parts and ii have a good idea of how the
things should look And not look.
The target audience of the film trailer will be females between the ages of 14- 24
/ teenagers and young adults. The target audience has been chosen for it already
because of the people who the story was originally written for, when I found the
book I was in a book store, it had been placed in the teenagers section of the
store along with other bestselling books such as city of bones and Harry Potter
which have both been turned into films and of course in the case of Harry Potter
it has not become a world success. I believe that the audience for the two films
that I have just specified will be the same for my film as well, considering that
the books started out in the same place in the book store and it has strong leads
that both sexes will be able to associate with.
Also when I was researching the book found that the author of the book had
created a YouTube page and she has made a few videos for each of her books to
give a visual idea of the sorts of things that go down in it. Her YouTube channel
has 6,571 subscribers again this shows that she has a large audience for her
book, this gives a good starting point and audience base before the book is
turned into a trailer, making this book a possible success.

Market competitors
City of bones - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hc4CiTvQ-YE
This book was turned into a film in 2013 and was released all over the world, the
book was a best seller and so already had a big audience base, this of course
increased after the film trailer was released because people sore it and became
interested in it and so read the books first before watching the film so the
audience for the book would have increased after the trailer was first show and
so this would have helped the film to bring in a bigger audience one the film was
out thus making them more money. This is a potential competitor for me because
it hasd the same target audience but the way that I am going to be able to beat
the figures that they have managed to come up with is because my product will

follow the story and I will not divulge from it like this one does. Personally I have
read all the books in this series but almost straight away the people who
produced the film strayed from the story in this book, this to me made the film a
little worse and lost my interest because it was not the story that I was used to
and had paid to go and watch in the cinema. So I think that following the story
will be the best way to keep the target audience interested and to make sure
that they do not get annoyed when they watch this film that the story had
diverged from what they wanted it to be.

Harry potter - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EC2tmFVNNE

This has to be one of the bestselling book to film series of all time, there have
been 8 films out of the series of books, also a section of universal pictures in
America and a studio tour in London plus lots of other stuff have come about
after the book became a film. The company were unsure when they started
making the film that it was going to be a big success, but because the book had
already had a big audience base before the film came out it helped to increase
the profits, also having a good director was also helpful to b ring the fantasy
world to life that everyone imagined when they read the book. This book just
shows how turning a book in to a film can make lots of money and be a big
success, many people believe that it just depends on a good story but I also
think and I believe that this shows that having a large audience base even before
you make the film helps to make it a big success in the end. This is a competitor
for me because of how successful it has become and the fact that from one story
the whole franchise has been made. The book would have had about the same
amount of interest in the story before it was made in to a film but because it kept
to the story and targeted the correct target audience this allowed the film to
succeed and supress all expectations for it. I would want to try and achieve the
same results for my film as the ones that they have managed to get for this, to
beat there results would be a very big success.

Personal requirements
Locations the locations that I have chosen are all easily assessable by me and
my actors. Because I will be mostly filming within college time the expense for
the bus and other transport has already been paid for. Also for some of my
locations I will not have to travel to them to get to them.
Food expenses - I do not plan on paying for any of the food that will be consumed
by my cast in the process of making the trailer, this is because I expect them to
pay out of their own wallets of take packed lunch because I will be filming around
there normal day and so I will have no need to pay for their food. They are all
student and so should all easily be able to get hold of the funds that they need to
afford some food.
Accommodation all the people that are in my production live at home and are
all within easy commuting distance of my production locations so there will be no
need to have to pay for their accommodation fees. Because they are all able to
commute to locations there is no need to have to pay for accommodation for
anyone.
Prop expenses I will be using props that I already own or am able to borrow/ use
for free, this means that there will be no expenses for props. I have no need to by
props when I can get the props that I need or use the ones that I have for free,
thus saving me the expense of a prop that I may never use again. Also because
of the story is set in a school the college should hold all the right props that I
need at no cost to me.
Crew I will also not be paying any of my crew as we are all helping one another
out with the projects there is no need to pay each other because we are paying
each other with our help, and acting skills.

Budget
Location I will not have to pay for the location because I am filming at the
Henley College and because I attend the college it will not cost me anything to
film on the college sites, this is good because it means that this is one major
expense that I do not have to worry about. The other locations that I will be
visiting will also be free because they are outdoor public spaces that you do not
have to pay for. I will also not have to pay for my actors to reach the locations
because they should already be in the locations by the time that I start filming
because they also go to the college.
Cast- I will not be paying any of my cast, this is because we are all friends and
are all helping one another out, this means that we are not going to charge one
another to appear in the shows. They will also be paying for another expenses
that they create out of their own pocket because if they want something then

they should have the money to get it, for example lunch, because we will be
doing it during college hours they should already have the stuff in place to afford
what they want.
Props I will be using props that I already own which means that I will not have
to pay for any new ones. Also because where I am filming my show I will not
have to pay for the stuff to go in the buildings because it should all already be in
there, this means that all the props that I need I either have/ own or can rest for
free.
Personal expenses personally I do not believe that I will have expenses, there is
no need for me to have expenses paid for me as there should be none.
Overall this means that the total budget for my show should be nothing/ 0. As
a student I find ways for things to coast as little as they can so by choosing the
actors locations and props with that in mind I am able to come up with a
production that will cost me nothing to make. All I will need is the go ahead to
make it.
