Carol Pate Charlton

Following 20 years as a Human Resources and leadership


development professional, Ms. Charlton successfully transitioned to a
career in teaching middle school, completing an internship in eighth
grade US History and a Master of Arts in Teaching Social Science
Education in 2011. She earned a 4.0 grade point average at the
University of South Florida.
Highlights of her Human Resources career include designing
performance appraisal systems, training trainers and managers to
teach customer service and change management workshops, opening
a corporate university, and aligning organizational and employee
selection, training, recognition and performance systems.
While at General Electric (GE Security), Carol was chosen as an
investigator of workplace and employee issues (ombudsman). In her
role there, she was responsible for creating and presenting the
organizations annual talent management plan, including development
and placement recommendations. Carol had a key role in assisting
with mergers and acquisitions, documenting and improving legal
processes and management systems.
At Citrix Systems, Carol introduced and branded the companys first
performance management system, Coaching Conversations, and
digitized the process as part of the first employee intranet rollout. In
her role as Director of Learning and Development, Ms. Charlton was
called on to create and present information to a diverse audience on
topics ranging from Compensation to Managing Meetings and
Improving Presentations. At Citrix, Carol also served as a Senior
Human Resources Manager to the Global Engineering group and has
worldwide experience coaching technical employees at all levels.
At the Office Depot world headquarters, Carol was part of the team
that launched the highly successful Office Depot University. Prior to
the launch, Carol created about 50% of the leadership development
curriculum and incorporated pre and post 360-degree management
assessments into the five-day core program.
In addition to her MAT in Social Science Education, Ms. Charlton
holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Science in
Human Resource Development.
In 2013, Carol was selected as one of three finalists for the state-wide
Warren Tracey Beginning Teacher award, by the Florida Council for

Social Studies. That year, she co-sponsored the first student


government association at her school.
In 2014, Carol was selected to attend the prestigious Justice Teaching
Institute at the Florida Supreme Court in Tallahassee. This week long
program included preparing and conducting mock oral arguments on
a current Supreme Court case.
Currently, Ms. Charlton is a 7th grade Civics teacher at Haile Middle
School in Bradenton, Florida. She is certified to teach Social Studies
and Language Arts for grades 6-12, and is trained in AVID methods
and strategies. She is a faculty co-sponsor for the National Junior
Honor Society. Her teaching philosophy includes setting high
expectations and delivering relevant, hands-on lessons to maximize
learning and retention.
