InTASC Standards

Standard One - Knowledge of Human Development: The teacher understands how children
learn and develop and can provide learning opportunities that support their intellectual, social, and
personal development.

Reflection: This assignment helped me gained clarity of situations that students may be
involved in. It also gave me a better understanding of Low SES Characters and Low SES
Implications. It gave me directions and examples to look for when trying to address or identify

one of the implications as well as characteristics. Overall it highlighted and made me realize
that these things are real and that I will most likely encounter one or more of these during my
teaching experience.

Standard Two - Adapting Instruction for Individual Needs: The teacher understands how
students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are
adapted to diverse learners.

Reflection: It was very intersting to learn these different learning styles. I did not know about a
lot of these so it was very interesting researching them. I also did the test online and I
discovered that I was a verbal-linguistic learner which is very accurate. I think it was a very
beneficial idea because I was introduced to different learning styles and also activities that
would help solve these different learning styles.

Standard Three - Classroom Motivation and Management Skills: The teacher uses an
understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment
that encourages positive social interactions, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

Reflection: Dr. wolf was very inspirational and very moving to me. After his presentation I
thought really hard about what I wanted out of life and what I wanted to give. He inspired me
even more to become a teacher but more importantly make a difference. He explained that
there is going to e difficulties and hardships in the process but it would all be worth it in the
end. My spirit was very high after Dr. Neal presentation I felt like a brand new person. I even
bought his book and plan on reading it over the summer.

Standard Four - Knowledge of Subject Matter: The teacher understands the central concepts,
tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) she or he teaches and can create learning
experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students.

Document: (Field Work Observation) Mrs. Hurt would give students worksheets to work on
individually and or in small groups and they would only have a certain amount of time until
she called the class together. She would use the projector to write the answers. For some
classes she would go over each answer and explain it and she did not use the book, for other
classes she would call on students for the answers and right them on the over head but she will
still explain the answers and she also did not use the book or any other source for this process.

Reflection: I think that this is very important that she presented her knowledge of the subject
because if the students see that she is unsure that will create tension in the classroom as well as
unnecessary conversations. I also was interested in the way that she chose to go over the notes
in class and have students cite the answer as well as back the question up with why the answer
is what it is. I believe Mrs. Hurt is a wonderful teacher and knows the subject she is teaching
very well.

Standard Five - Communication Skills: The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal,
nonverbal, media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive
interaction in the classroom.

Document: (Field Work Observation) Mrs. Hurt used a video that explained the Bohrs
Atomic Models and Lewis Dot Structure. This video had questions and she would stop the
video after each question was recited and she would call on someone to answer and also she
would spilt into group so students can come up with an answer together.
Reflection: In my opinion I think that this is a great strategy. Instead of students listening to
lectures and taking notes all the time it is good to use a different type of instruction method
such as a short video that engages the student. I will most likely use this method when I began
my teaching and planning of a lesson plan. This method engaged students as well as proposes

debates among students.

Standard Six - Assessment of Student Learning: The teacher understands and uses formal and
informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and
physical development of the learner.

Document: #5 From Lesson Plan Sample

Formative Assessment: Students will receive a quiz which will contain 5 questions, 2 multiple
choices and 3 short answers. This will give me a better understanding of what I need to
improve and how to teach the information better.

Reflection: This particular portion of the lesson plan is very important. The reason I think it is
important because assessment is very important when trying to understand where every student
is in the class as well as what the students did not understand based off of the amount of
students that got a certain question incorrect. I will continue to use formative assessment as I
begin teaching I think it is a very helpful tool to understand the weakness and strengths of my
class.
Standard Seven - Instructional Planning Skills: The teacher plans instruction based on
knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.

Document: (Standards From Lesson Plan)

Civics-Government
1.5: The student understands various systems of government and how nations and
international organizations interact
1.5 (k) The student identifies the basics features of systems of government (e.g. Republic,
Democracy, Monarchy, Dictatorship, Oligarch, and Theocracy)
1.5.2 (k) the student describes the ways political system meet or fail to meet the needs
and wants of their citizenship (e.g. republic, democracy, monarchy, dictatorship, oligarchy,
theocracy.
1.5.3

(k) The students defines the characteristics of nations (e.g., territory, population,

government, sovereignty)

Reflection: It is very important that as a teacher include educational standards for my subject. I
understand that teachers sometimes want to free write lesson plans but standards have to be
included to teach lesson plan and I am now aware. I think for some standards there might be
difficulties but overall you just have the switch up the lesson plan so that it incorporates the
standards.

Standard Eight - Multiple Instructional Strategies: The teacher understands and uses a variety
of instructional strategies to encourage students' development of critical thinking, problem solving,
and performance skills.

Document: (Field Work Observation)

4/2/15 Mrs. Hurt Schedule For Every Class
-B.W: Let Me know what you know about Element 42
-A: video on Bohrs Models
-B: complete notes from book
-C: Lewis Dot Structure

Reflection: Having multiple instructional strategies planned for a day is very useful and
beneficial. It also keeps students engaged and ready to learn. I learned that Mrs. Hurt would
keep her kids active even if she was asking for a students to go show her a poster that
represented a lesson of the day. I think that was important as well because usually after lunch
tired and or very hyper and not attentive. I will follow Mrs. Hurt steps in planning her lesson so
that can have multiple instructional strategies.

Standard Nine - Professional Commitment and Responsibility: The teacher is a reflective

practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of her/his choices and actions on others
(students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community) and who actively seeks out
opportunities to grow professionally.

Document: (Field Work Observation)

I interviewed Mrs. Hurt. Here are the following questions and answers:
-How do you plan to make sure that every student learns?
-Differentiate
-Continue checking on each student progress individually
-Efficiently
-How are you working to become a better teacher?
- Organization
- Staying up with the current events in field
- Collaborate with other teachers in field and out of field.
-What do you do outside the classroom to help your students?
-Meet before and after school
-Meet on Fridays for extinction and makeup days

Reflection: After having this interview with Mrs. Hurt the information that she gave was very
valid and I experienced that through observing her teach. I can tell that she loves her job and
lover her students and care for every one of them, which is very important as a teacher. I
admire the fact that Mrs. Hurt takes initiative outside of the classroom so that the inside will
not be a disaster. I also agree with every answer she provided and I am willing to incorporate
those ideas into my teaching.

Standard Ten - Partnerships: The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents,
and agencies in the larger community to support students' learning and wellbeing.

Instructional Guidance

Reflection: Dr. Jane Gross is a great speaker. My take away from her presentation is that parentinvolvement is a key to success for most students. This creates a positive environment for teacher
and students. It is very important that the student, teacher, and parent are all on the same page. I
was surprise by the statistics she gave on how many students were likely to go to college when
parents are involved. I can definitely see the correlation. Overall I will definitely encourage and
stress parent involvement and take initiative steps to see it happen continuously.
