deployed devices are invisible.

4. No fault location information or
method is available, and faults
cannot be located or rectified on
site. Therefore, more site visits
are required.
5. No detection apparatus is
available, and verification
cannot be completed on time
after site deployment.
Site
deployment
using PNP

1. After being scanned, ESNs are

sent by short message (SMS)
or email.

2. Transmission link establishment

are invisible, and faults cannot
be discovered in time.

2. Detailed PNP processes are

visible, solving black box
problems and improving fault
rectification efficiency.
3. Transmission detection is
performed, and Ping&Tracert
detection data can be uploaded
to the OMC in real time for
real-time fault location and
fewer site visits.

4. Site deployment highly depends

on transmission. If transmission
is disconnected, more site visits
are required.

4. Engineers can use the SDT to

load software and
configurations on site,

and saved on the SDT and
checked on site, ensuring
correctness and uniqueness of
data collected.

6. Reports must be checked

multiple times before being
generated, delaying time for
generating reports.

6. Electronic information
recorded by the SDT is
directly reported, shortening
report outputting duration.

6.0 supports only the current RAT upgrade to 7.0, for example, UMTS 6.0 > UMTS 7.0.

7.0 supports the current RAT upgrade to 7.x, for example, UMTS 7.0 > UMTS 7.1.

7.0 supports the current RAT single mode upgrade to 8.0, for example, UMTS 7.0 >
BTS3900 WCDMA 8.0.

7.0 does not support the cross-RAT single mode upgrade to 7.x, for example, UMTS 7.0 >
LTE 7.0.
7.0 does not support the cross-RAT single mode upgrade to 8.0, for example, UMTS 7.0 >
BTS3900 LTE 8.0.
7.0 does not support the co-MPT upgrade to 8.0, for example, UMTS 7. 0 >
BTS3900-GUL 8.0.

The SDT temporarily does not support the upgrade between BTS3900 WCDMA 8.0 and
BTS3900 LTE 8.0 on the UMPT as UMPTa1, a2, a6, or b2 cannot support BTS3900
WCDMA and BTS3900 LTE simultaneously.

Co-MPT base stations (8.0) can run only on the UMPT. Co-MPT BTS3900s cannot run on
the WMPT or LMPT. BTS3900 WCDMA and BTS3900 LTE can run on the WMPT or
LMPT.

The SDT does not support the degrade, such as from 8.0 to 7.0 and from 7.0 to 6.0, and
cross-version upgrade, such as from 6.0 to 8.0.

Due to GTMU flash memory reasons, the SDT does not support the GBTS upgrade from
8.0 to 8.x.

Due to GTMUa flash memory reasons, the SDT supports only detection operations on the
GTMUa. On the GTMUb, the SDT supports software upgrade and detection operations.

Users cannot download hot and cold patches to the SDT. You can download hot and cold
patches remotely through the M2000.

1.2.8 SDT Security Feature Description

You can use the site deployment tool, the SDT, to log in to the base station, to download
software and configuration files, to query the transmission fault, antenna fault, and base
station alarm fault through the MML or BIN interface only during base station installation
(when the service is unavailable). The SDT does not support a base station parameter
modification function, or a tracing and interception function. It cannot access to user data.
Delete base station configuration files on the smartphone, and modify the LMT password of
the base station through the OMC immediately after the base station is ready for services.
The smartphone deployed with the SDT communicates with the AP using the standard Wi-Fi
protocol, which includes the standard security mechanism of Wi-Fi, Wireless Application
Protocol (WAP/WPA2/WEP). After purchasing the AP, you can set the encryption protocol of
Wi-Fi according to the User Manual. When you use the AP, disable the SSID broadcast
function.
The AP communicates with the base station using the standard TCP/IP protocol through
RJ45cable.
The communication between the smartphone deployed with the SDT and the base station is in
compliance with the TCP/IP protocol. It uses the MML or BIN maintenance interface of the
base station to perform site deployment operations. No private interface is used between BTS
and SDT.
All OM interfaces between the smartphone deployed with the SDT and the base station
function in compliance with the security mechanism of the base station, which is identical
with the security mechanism between the LMT and the base station. If the communication
does not comply with the security mechanism, the SDT cannot communicate with the base
station.

HUAWEI SDT User Guide

1 SDT User Guide

The SDT GUI does not support any MML command input operations. The resulting
commands of the function icons are based on MML commands for LMT products. To learn
the MML commands, see the LMT User Manual released with the base station.
The SDT records operation logs, which contain information on the related MML commands,
operation time, and command results. No personal data is recorded in the logs.
All SDT user accounts and passwords used to log in to the base station are encrypted with
AES256 by default. You cannot change the base station's user names and passwords on the
SDT.
The SDT software is scanned by the antivirus software, such as the Symantec and OfficeScan.
Install antivirus software for the smartphone deployed with the SDT running Android. This
can prevent the smartphone from virus or Trojan Horse attacks and protect the network. The
mainstream antivirus software vendors for Android smartphones include AVG, ESET,
Norton/Symantec, Avast, Dr.Web, F-Secure, Ikarus, Kaspersky, Zoner, and Lookout.

Description of the Preconfiguration Script File (Precfg.ini)

The preconfiguration script file Precfg.ini is used by a base station to download software
for unconfigured boards of the base station.
The base station downloads software corresponding to board types defined in Precfg.ini.
The Precfg.ini file must be made based on the hardware configuration of the base station.
If the file contains excessive unnecessary boards, the upgrade fails due to excessive
software to be loaded.
When the base station downloads software, all software of boards in Precfg.ini and
installed boards will be downloaded.
If Precfg.ini is unavailable, the base station downloads software based on the latest
configuration. After the base station is reset successfully, the base station installs
software of new boards.
Precfg.ini is saved in ANSI format.

For the software upgrade of GBTSs and SRAN8.0 base stations, the SDT delivers
Precfg.ini and then software to the base stations to ensure that all required board
software be downloaded at a time.

For the upgrade of UMTS and LTE base stations from SRAN7.0 to SRAN7.x or
SRAN8.0, UMTS and LTE base stations in SRAN7.0 do not support Precfg.ini, and
therefore the SDT downloads only software of configured and installed boards. If a
board or an RF module is added, you need to install software through the SDT or
M2000.

For details about how to make Precfg.ini, see 3900 Series Base Station Commissioning
Guide.

1 SDT User Guide

SRAN packages are large in size. For a single-mode site, you only need to download a
single-mode package with the version number of V100R008.

The SDT manages software packages based on their versions. SRAN and single-mode
packages have the same version number. Therefore, a newly uploaded software package
will overwrite an existing software package on the SDT. You can only use an SRAN
package to overwrite a single-mode package. The software of a single mode in the
SRAN package is the same as the software in a single-mode package.

For a single-mode site where mode expansion is required, if you obtained only a
single-mode package for the original mode before the upgrade, you need to download an
SRAN package from http://support.huawei.com and then upload it to the SDT.

1.6.3 Creating Directories

before the site deployment using the SDT, remote equipment administrator must run the
SET BTSLOCALETHPORT command on the BSC to open the maintenance port.
Otherwise, the SDT fails to connect to the base station, and the base station cannot be
commissioned on site.

Before the site deployment, the remote equipment room administrator must set the Auto
Download Active Function Switch to OFF on the BSC by running the SET
BTSAUTODLDACTINFO MML command. If the switch is not turned off, the base
station automatically rolls back and the upgrade fails.

For the software upgrade of GBTSs, the SDT delivers Precfg.ini and then software to the
GBTSs to ensure that all required board software be downloaded at a time.

operations.
If the Tracert operation fails, the SDT displays 30 asterisks (*), taking 3 minutes.

Step 3 If required, manually change the IP address and perform detection again.
The source IP address of a GSM site is the local IP address (IP address of the base station).
The source IP address of a UMTS site or an LTE site is the local IP address of the OMCH (obtained by
running the DSP OMCH command).
The destination IP address of a GSM site contains the next-hop IP address and the IP address of the base
station controller (BSC).
The destination IP address of a UMTS site or an LTE site contains the next-hop IP address and the IP
address of the M2000.
The next-hop IP address is obtained only when the interface type for the GSM, UMTS, or LTE BTS mode
is FE or ETH. Otherwise, no next-hop IP address is available. Multiple next-hop IP addresses may be
available, including primary and secondary next-hop IP addresses. The active route may not be pinged and
the standby route may be pinged. Therefore, ping and Tracert operations are performed on both the active
and standby routes.
The SDT obtains the slot number, subrack number, and cabinet number, and displays them by default.
You can manually modify the preceding information.

1.11.5 How Do I Add a Base Station Configuration File to a

Smartphone?
New base station configuration files are generated aperiodically during site deployment
project. You can copy the new base station configuration files on the PC to the \
HuaweiBTSInfo directory of the corresponding base station type in the SD card of the
smartphone.
For example, to copy a new UMTS base station configuration file with the base station name,
WhitehouseU_120, perform the following operations.

Copying from the PC

Step 1 Export the configuration file (TranCfg.INI, NodeBCfg.xml, or M2000.XML) of the base
station to be added from the CME, and obtain the name and ID (for example, WhitehouseU
and 120) of the base station.
Step 2 Create a directory named Site name_ID (for example, WhitehouseU_120), and store the
configuration file exported from the CME in the directory.
Step 3 Copy the directory to the directory named according to the corresponding BTS mode in the
HuaweiBTSInfo directory, for example, HuaweiBTSInfo\UMTS.

1.11.6 Base Station Login Failure Causes and Solutions

ID

Symptom

Cause

Solution

The SDT cannot

log in to the GSM
base station.

From GSM BTS

V100R014 onwards, in the
GBTS site deployment
scenario, after the base
station OML link is set up,
the O&M Ethernet port
might be closed according
to the BSC configuration.
(The O&M Ethernet port is
closed by default.)

Before you use the SDT to start

site deployment, ask the remote
equipment room administrator
to open the O&M Ethernet port
by running the SET
BTSLOCALETHPORT
command on the BSC. If the
O&M Ethernet port is closed,
the SDT cannot connect to the
base station, and fails to perform
near-end commissioning.

No available AP is
detected.

The AP is not powered on.

Check whether the AP is

powered on. If the AP is
powered on, check the amount
of electricity of the AP. Ensure
that the amount of electricity of
the AP is greater than 50%.

The amount of electricity

of the AP is too low.
The SSID of the AP is not
configured.

Check the SSID of the AP in the

SDTConfig.txt script file.

Issue 07 (2013-11-01)

The SDT fails to

log in to the base
station.

The network cable is faulty

or incorrect passwords are
entered for three times
upon base station login,
which causes the BTS to be
locked.

Change the network cable.

The IP address of
the base station is
incorrect.

An incorrect IP address is
configured for the base
station.

Check the IP address of the base

station in the SDTConfig.txt
script file.

The network cable is

disconnected.

Remove the network cable and

insert it again, or replace the
network cable.

The near-end
commissioning IP address
in the configuration file of
the base station might have
been changed.

Enter the new IP address and log

in to the base station again.

After the
configuration file
is downloaded and
the base station is
restarted, the SDT
cannot log in to the
base station.

1.11.7 Causes of and Solutions to Service Interruption During Site

Deployment
ID

Symptom

Cause

Solution

When downloading
software or
configuration files
during site deployment,
the communication
between the
smartphone and the
base station is
interrupted.

Smartphone or AP

network cable is
loose.

If the software or the

configuration files are not
completely downloaded, the
software or configure files are
invalid.

After the upgrade of

GSM base station, the
GSM base station
automatically rolls
back.

The base station has

been upgraded using
the M2000. Therefore,
the Auto Download
Active Function
Switch on the BSC is
ON.

Before the site deployment, the

remote equipment room
administrator must set the Auto
Download Active Function
Switch to OFF on the BSC by
running the SET
BTSAUTODLDACTINFO
MML command. If the switch is
not turned off, the base station
automatically rolls back and the
upgrade fails.

After the site

deployment, the
communication
between the
smartphone and the
base station is
interrupted during
information query or
tests.

Smartphone or AP
power fails, or the
network cable is
loose.

When the communication is

interrupted, the SDT enters the
offline mode and stops displaying
the information reported by the
base station. As the SDT supports
only query commands, the sudden
communication interruption
between the smartphone and the
base station does not lead to base
station exceptions.

Log in to the base station again to

download the files.

Log in to the base station again

for information query or tests.

1.11.8 How Do I Avoid Barcode Scanning Errors?

During barcode scanning, the barcode image in the smartphone may be unclear and finally
scanning failures or errors occur due to the following reasons:

The barcode is small.

The space for scanning focus is narrow.

The light is insufficient. The barcode is damaged.

To avoid scanning errors, you are advised to perform the following operations:
1.

Take down the barcode, put it horizontally in a place with sufficient light, hold still, and
scan it from the barcode top vertically. This avoids the smartphone from shaking and
ensures that the ESN image is clear.

2.

After the scanning, check whether numbers in the scanning result are consistent with
those of the barcode. If they are inconsistent, scan the barcode again.

3.

If scanning errors occur repeatedly, you are advised to manually input numbers of the
barcode.
