CAUTION
The software upgrade function of the SDT has the following limitations:
Issue 07 (2013-11-01)
15
6.0 supports only the current RAT upgrade to 7.0, for example, UMTS 6.0 > UMTS 7.0.
7.0 supports the current RAT upgrade to 7.x, for example, UMTS 7.0 > UMTS 7.1.
7.0 supports the current RAT single mode upgrade to 8.0, for example, UMTS 7.0 >
BTS3900 WCDMA 8.0.
7.0 does not support the cross-RAT single mode upgrade to 7.x, for example, UMTS 7.0 >
LTE 7.0.
7.0 does not support the cross-RAT single mode upgrade to 8.0, for example, UMTS 7.0 >
BTS3900 LTE 8.0.
7.0 does not support the co-MPT upgrade to 8.0, for example, UMTS 7. 0 >
BTS3900-GUL 8.0.
The SDT temporarily does not support the upgrade between BTS3900 WCDMA 8.0 and
BTS3900 LTE 8.0 on the UMPT as UMPTa1, a2, a6, or b2 cannot support BTS3900
WCDMA and BTS3900 LTE simultaneously.
Co-MPT base stations (8.0) can run only on the UMPT. Co-MPT BTS3900s cannot run on
the WMPT or LMPT. BTS3900 WCDMA and BTS3900 LTE can run on the WMPT or
LMPT.
The SDT does not support the degrade, such as from 8.0 to 7.0 and from 7.0 to 6.0, and
cross-version upgrade, such as from 6.0 to 8.0.
Due to GTMU flash memory reasons, the SDT does not support the GBTS upgrade from
8.0 to 8.x.
Due to GTMUa flash memory reasons, the SDT supports only detection operations on the
GTMUa. On the GTMUb, the SDT supports software upgrade and detection operations.
Users cannot download hot and cold patches to the SDT. You can download hot and cold
patches remotely through the M2000.

The SDT GUI does not support any MML command input operations. The resulting
commands of the function icons are based on MML commands for LMT products. To learn
the MML commands, see the LMT User Manual released with the base station.
The SDT records operation logs, which contain information on the related MML commands,
operation time, and command results. No personal data is recorded in the logs.
All SDT user accounts and passwords used to log in to the base station are encrypted with
AES256 by default. You cannot change the base station's user names and passwords on the
SDT.
The SDT software is scanned by the antivirus software, such as the Symantec and OfficeScan.
Install antivirus software for the smartphone deployed with the SDT running Android. This
can prevent the smartphone from virus or Trojan Horse attacks and protect the network. The
mainstream antivirus software vendors for Android smartphones include AVG, ESET,
Norton/Symantec, Avast, Dr.Web, F-Secure, Ikarus, Kaspersky, Zoner, and Lookout.

models. For details, see section 1.5.5 "Installing the PHU Software."
A wireless access point (WAP) is a device that allows wireless devices to connect to a wired network using
using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or related standards. The WAP usually connects to a router if it is a standalone
standalone device, or is part of a router itself. WAP also refers to the wireless router including the wireless
wireless gateway and network bridge.

CAUTION
The vercfg.xml file provides version information required by the ACT SOFTWARE
command.
The file name of a *.CSP file for GSM is the version. When you activate software, use the
file name of the *.CSP file other than vercfg.xml.
The data configuration file in SRAN7.0 is exported by choosing Export Data > Export
Auto Deployment Configuration Data on CME V200R012.
The data configuration file in SRAN8.0 is exported by choosing Advanced > Export
Auto Deployment Data on CME V200R013.
The exported file name differs by the value of Product Type on the site deployment GUI.
You can choose Advanced > Create Base Station to navigate to the site deployment
GUI.
Issue 07 (2013-11-01)
36
If the configuration data file generated for BTS3900 WCDMA using another method is
not NodeBCfg.xml, rename it as NodeBCfg.xml.
If the configuration data file generated for BTS3900 LTE using another method is not
M2000.XML, rename it as M2000.XML.
The preconfiguration script file Precfg.ini is used by a base station to download software
for unconfigured boards of the base station.
The base station downloads software corresponding to board types defined in Precfg.ini.
The Precfg.ini file must be made based on the hardware configuration of the base station.
If the file contains excessive unnecessary boards, the upgrade fails due to excessive
software to be loaded.
When the base station downloads software, all software of boards in Precfg.ini and
installed boards will be downloaded.
If Precfg.ini is unavailable, the base station downloads software based on the latest
configuration. After the base station is reset successfully, the base station installs
software of new boards.
Precfg.ini is saved in ANSI format.
For the software upgrade of GBTSs and SRAN8.0 base stations, the SDT delivers
Precfg.ini and then software to the base stations to ensure that all required board
software be downloaded at a time.
For the upgrade of UMTS and LTE base stations from SRAN7.0 to SRAN7.x or
SRAN8.0, UMTS and LTE base stations in SRAN7.0 do not support Precfg.ini, and
therefore the SDT downloads only software of configured and installed boards. If a
board or an RF module is added, you need to install software through the SDT or
M2000.
For details about how to make Precfg.ini, see 3900 Series Base Station Commissioning
Guide.

39
CAUTION
The software package *.csp for GBTSs in SRAN8.0 must be obtained from BTS3900
V100R008C00SPC200 Version(GBTS Tools).zip.
The NE Type field displayed behind the software version indicates whether it is an
SRAN package or a single-mode package.
Issue 07 (2013-11-01)
40
SRAN packages are large in size. For a single-mode site, you only need to download a
single-mode package with the version number of V100R008.
The SDT manages software packages based on their versions. SRAN and single-mode
packages have the same version number. Therefore, a newly uploaded software package
will overwrite an existing software package on the SDT. You can only use an SRAN
package to overwrite a single-mode package. The software of a single mode in the
SRAN package is the same as the software in a single-mode package.
For a single-mode site where mode expansion is required, if you obtained only a
single-mode package for the original mode before the upgrade, you need to download an
SRAN package from http://support.huawei.com and then upload it to the SDT.
Issue 07 (2013-11-01)
41
CAUTION
The folder name must not contain more than 128 English characters.
To avoid errors introduced by manual selection, ensure that the site name and ID in the
directory name are the same as those in the CME configuration.
----End
CAUTION
The GSM software name is also the version and cannot be modified, for example,
BTS3000V100R014C00SP12.csp.
For the upgrade from GSM 7.0 to GSM 8.0, the software package *.csp must be obtained
from V100R008C00SPC200 Version(GBTS Tools).zip and saved to the
HuaweiBTSInfo\GSM\Software directory.

Prerequisites
The SDT has logged in to the GSM base station.
The SDT can upgrade the base station software and configuration data from SRAN6.0 or
SRAN6.1 to SRAN7.0.
The SDT also supports the installation of patches for SRAN7.0.
GSM site deployment requires configuration files and base station software.
If the base station version is SRAN6.0 or SRAN6.1, you must upgrade the base station to
SRAN7.0 before running the tests, including Antenna check, Environment alarm,
Tran-link establish, Detect transmission fault.
Issue 07 (2013-11-01)
60
If the base station version is SRAN6.0 or SRAN6.1, you can upgrade the software, or you can
upgrade the software and the configuration data at the same time. However, you cannot
upgrade the configuration data alone.
If the software and configuration data are upgraded at the same time, the base station is
restarted twice to activate software and configuration data respectively.
CAUTION
From V100R014 onwards, during GSM site deployment, the maintenance port may be
closed by default under certain BSC configuration after the OML is established. Therefore,
before the site deployment using the SDT, remote equipment administrator must run the
SET BTSLOCALETHPORT command on the BSC to open the maintenance port.
Otherwise, the SDT fails to connect to the base station, and the base station cannot be
commissioned on site.
Before the site deployment, the remote equipment room administrator must set the Auto
Download Active Function Switch to OFF on the BSC by running the SET
BTSAUTODLDACTINFO MML command. If the switch is not turned off, the base
station automatically rolls back and the upgrade fails.
For the software upgrade of GBTSs, the SDT delivers Precfg.ini and then software to the
GBTSs to ensure that all required board software be downloaded at a time.

1.8.6 Ping&Tracert
Prerequisites
You have started the SDT, and the SDT has successfully logged in to the GSM, UMTS,
or LTE base station.
Context
The Ping command is used to check whether the gateway through which packets are sent
from the host to the destination is reachable and whether network connections are normal. In
this way, network faults can be located.
The TRACERT command is used to test the network line quality and check whether a
network connection is faulty.
Ping and TRACERT buttons on the page enable you to run the Ping and TRACERT
commands.
A ping packet can contain VLANs that are automatically added by the base station based on
route information.
Issue 07 (2013-11-01)
74
Procedure
Step 1 Click Ping&Tracert.
Issue 07 (2013-11-01)
75
Step 2 Wait for the SDT to automatically obtain parameter settings and perform ping and Tracert
operations.
If the Tracert operation fails, the SDT displays 30 asterisks (*), taking 3 minutes.
Step 3 If required, manually change the IP address and perform detection again.
The source IP address of a GSM site is the local IP address (IP address of the base station).
The source IP address of a UMTS site or an LTE site is the local IP address of the OMCH (obtained by
running the DSP OMCH command).
The destination IP address of a GSM site contains the next-hop IP address and the IP address of the base
station controller (BSC).
The destination IP address of a UMTS site or an LTE site contains the next-hop IP address and the IP
address of the M2000.
The next-hop IP address is obtained only when the interface type for the GSM, UMTS, or LTE BTS mode
is FE or ETH. Otherwise, no next-hop IP address is available. Multiple next-hop IP addresses may be
available, including primary and secondary next-hop IP addresses. The active route may not be pinged and
the standby route may be pinged. Therefore, ping and Tracert operations are performed on both the active
and standby routes.
The SDT obtains the slot number, subrack number, and cabinet number, and displays them by default.
You can manually modify the preceding information.
----End
Issue 07 (2013-11-01)
76
CAUTION
The standing wave ratio test, intermodulation, and cross feeder detection are offline tests and
interrupt services. Enable the standing wave ratio test, intermodulation, or cross feeder
detection only when required.

Issue 07 (2013-11-01)
79
Step 4 After VSWR and intermodulation interference detection is complete, cross feeder connection
is automatically detected. Detection results are displayed.
CAUTION
Cross feeder detection typically applies to 2T2R sectors. In a non-2T2R sector scenario,
forcibly enabling cross feeder detection is prone to introduce errors in the detection result.

1.11.1 How Do I Copy Files Between the PC and the Smartphone?
USB
The USB debugging mode of an Android smartphone is disabled by default.
Ensure that the USB debugging mode is disabled so that the SD card of a smartphone can be
identified by a PC. Then, you can copy files between the PC and the SD card of a smartphone.
Step 1 Check that the USB debugging mode of the smartphone is disabled.
For versions earlier than Android4.0: Choose Settings > Applications > Development >
USB debugging.
Issue 07 (2013-11-01)
108
For Android4.0 or Android4.1: Choose Settings > Developer options > USB debugging.
Step 2 Connect the smartphone to the PC using a USB cable, and enable the USB storage.
For example, you can select Turn on USB storage if the USB Mass Storage window is
displayed
Step 3 The removable disk, the SD card of the smartphone, is displayed in My Computer on the PC.
Then, you can copy files between the PC and the removable disk.
CAUTION
If the embedded SD card and external SD card are both installed on the smartphone, two
removable disks are displayed on the PC. You can distinguish the two disks by the files stored
in them.
Step 4 Unplug the USB cable connected to the smartphone to check whether the files are copied to
the SD card.
MPT
Step 1 Install and active the Windows Media Player 11 on PC. Download
link:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/download-windows-media-player.
Step 2 Use a USB cable to connect your phone to the PC.
Step 3 Open the notification panel, touch Connected as an installer to display the USB computer
connection screen, and then select the Media device (MTP) check box.
Step 4 Your PC will automatically install the driver. After the installation is complete, the MTP

To avoid scanning errors, you are advised to perform the following operations:
1.
Take down the barcode, put it horizontally in a place with sufficient light, hold still, and
scan it from the barcode top vertically. This avoids the smartphone from shaking and
ensures that the ESN image is clear.
2.
After the scanning, check whether numbers in the scanning result are consistent with
those of the barcode. If they are inconsistent, scan the barcode again.
3.
If scanning errors occur repeatedly, you are advised to manually input numbers of the
barcode.
