Lesson # 3
Subject/Grade: Math/Kindergarten
3/17/15 at 1:30 pm
Learning Objective:
After identifying shapes with 100% accuracy, students will demonstrate their ability to use a bar
graph correctly by counting the given shapes.
Standard K-3: Through the process standards students will demonstrate an emerging sense of
repeating and growing patterns and classification based on attributes.
o K-3.4: Classify objects according to one or more attributes (such as color, size, shape, and
thickness)
Standard K-6: Through the process standards students will demonstrate an e
o K-6.1: Organize data in graphical displays using drawings and pictures.
o K-6.2: Interpret data from a graph.

Accommodations:
For those students who finish early, I will give them a plank sheet of paper that will allow them to
not only practice drawing their shapes, but writing and spelling the name of their shapes
correctly. For my higher level students, I will ask them to create their own bar graph by counting
their own shapes that they have drawn themselves. After everyone is finished, the small group
will be asked to quietly go back to their work centers until they are called for their other math
group with the cooperating teacher or assistant. For my visual learners, I will be sure that he has
his raised clipboard which will accommodate him to see clearly and effectively. For my auditory
learner, I will place her in the spot beside me during the small group lesson in order for her to
hear efficiently. Technology will not need to be used for this lesson plan.
Materials:
o Math worksheet
o Pencil
o Crayons
o Number line (if needed)
Procedures:
1. A select group of students (whom all 5 are in the same math groups) will be called by me
during math work groups.
2. Students will be asked to collect their pencil boxes that contain their crayons, scissors,
glue, and individual pencils and erasers.
3. I will ask all the students to sit down in a chair at a particular table quietly.
4. I will begin the small group lesson by asking the students what holiday is coming up.
5. After students respond with St. Patricks Day, I will introduce the math worksheet that
contains a large 4-leaf clover.
6. I will ask students to identify the shapes within the 4-leaf clover with 100% accuracy.
7. After students have raised their hand quietly and identified the given shapes, I will then
ask the group to explain to me what the box (which includes the shape and its assigned
color) in the top right hand corner is.
8. If incorrect, I will direct them in the right direction. If correct, I will then begin to pass out
the math worksheets to the given small group of students.
9. I will allow the students to have plenty of time to color each individual shape with the
correct color until the whole table of 5 is finished.
10.
Once each child is finished, I will direct their attention back on myself.
11.
I will then introduce the bar graph at the bottom of the page.
12.
I explain the directions to the students:
13.
Count each shape individually, once you have a final number for each shape, color
that many squares in on the bar graph line.
14.
Once students have finished, I will ask them to look over their work and hand it to
myself.
15.
told.
Activity Analysis:
1. The first activity consists of consulting with the small group regarding naming shapes
based on their physical features. Students will identify each given shape within the 4-leaf
worksheet individually and color them correctly based on the color code chart for each
shape. There will be no technology used within this lesson due to it being a small group
lesson plan. This activity supports the lesson objective because it is preparing them for
higher level of math content for a higher grade level when charts are used more
periodically. This allows students to work individually on their own and test their own
knowledge for math because they are used to working as a whole class for any given math
lessons.
2. The second activity will consist of the students completing the rest of the worksheet that
involves the bar graph. This activity will allow the small group of students to test the
knowledge that they gained in the previous activity. Students will be asked to count each
shape individually and color the correct amount of each shape in the given bar graph.
There will be no technology used within this small group lesson plan. This lesson stems for
the students needs because it allows them to practice counting, comparing, grouping, and
identifying.
