Photography comes from the greek words, photos and graphein.

Those two words mean light and to draw.
The word was first used in 1830.
Because most images are formed through a lens, a negative is usually
created.
The image becomes visible and permanent by fixing with sodium
thiosulfate, called hypo.
In the early part of its history, photography was sometimes belittled as a
mechanical art because of its dependence on technology.
Photography is not an automatic process as suggested by the camera.
A truly skilled photographer can introduce creativity and art through the
manipulation of different lenses and filters.
Photography has aptly been called the most important invention since the
printing press.
The forerunner of the camera was the camera obscura, a dark chamber or
room with a hole in one wall, through which images of objects outside the
room were projected on the opposite wall.
Nipce produced the first successful photograph from nature.
Photography had many critics in its early years. Many found it to be a
shortcut to art.
Mathew B. Brady, a New York City daguerreotypist and portraitist,
conceived the bold plan of making a photographic record of the hostilities
during the civil war.
Regular use of photographs in magazines began with the perfection of the
halftone process, which allowed the camera image to be printed at the
same time as the type and thereby reduced the cost of reproduction.
Photographs of specific historical buildings were made for a number of
purposes: to satisfy antiquarian curiosity, to provide information for
restoration, to supply artists with material on which to base paintings, or to
effect preservation efforts.

Photography has survived the ages and throughout history, it has been clear
that photography is more than just clicking a button on a camera; it is an art
that must be mastered.
