My Philosophy of Education

My philosophy of education, as well as my overall desire to teach, is driven by my strong

value of education itself. I believe education is the most powerful tool through which
transformative change can be accomplished at a personal, national, and global level. Therefore,
my primary motivation as a teacher is to instill in each of my students a passion for education
and an enthusiastic desire to become life-long learners. The accomplishment of this goal relies
on the establishment of a classroom environment that values each individual learner and
consistently provides opportunities for meaningful, engaging knowledge acquisition.
I believe the best, more effective educators are those who consistently demonstrate
genuine compassion for their students. Each child has unique gifts, talents, and interests; as a
teacher, one of my goals is to recognize and appreciate these individual attributes in order to
promote their further development and sustainment. By showing respect and appreciation for
my students at all times, I hope to create trusting, reciprocal relationships that allow for growth
to occur. Additionally, understanding my students is important because it allows me to deliver
instruction in a way that meets individual needs.
Academic learning should be active, engaging, and related to student interests. I believe
it is the responsibility of the teacher to deliver instruction in a manner that encourages students to
make connections to prior learning and understand the relevance of new concepts. Children are
naturally curious and interested in learning; teachers support this curiosity by creating lessons
that allow for questioning, exploration, and discovery. Learning is accomplished through a
variety of different means, and teachers should provide numerous opportunities for hands-on
experiences that encourage critical thinking and problem solving skills. Students learn best when
information is presented in an exciting way that is relatable to real-world experiences and student
inquiry.
In addition to being engaging, instruction should also be differentiated to meet the needs
of each individual student. All children are capable of learning, and it is the responsibility of the
teacher to identify the learning strategies that work best for each student. I plan to make
instruction accessible to all students by providing a variety of methods to acquire knowledge and
demonstrate learning.
The success of a teacher is largely proportional to his or her commitment to the
profession. I am extremely passionate about being an educator and strive to make this evident on
a daily basis for my students. By showing enthusiasm, teachers encourage their students to
become equally excited about the possibilities that learning provide.
