Indiana Standards and Clarifying Objectives:
Standard 7.1.7: Demonstrate and describe how an objects speed or

direction of motion changes when a force acts upon it. Demonstrate and
describe that an objects speed and direction of motion remain unchanged
if the net force acting upon it is zero.
Students will gather an understanding of motion by using the idea of Babe
Ruthe as a main topic of discussion.

Lesson objective(s):
Students will research thoroughly the concept of speed and direction of
motion changes.
Students will research the impact of force on motion changes.
Students will use the example of baseball incidents to base their
information from.

5E Lesson Plan

Students will watch in class videos prepared by the teacher. The videos will be baseball
hitting and pitching in live view as well as slow motion.

EXPLORATION
Students will research sports science studies on force and change of direction in baseball.
EXPLANATION
Students will engage in active listening as the teacher lectures and goes over a prepared
power point.
ELABORATION
Students will read their textbook chapter over this subject and complete the chapter
worksheet packet assignment.
EVALUATION
Students will create their own PowerPoint presentation using Babe Ruthe, and other
baseball players to illustrate their understanding of this conveying material.
Students will be assessed by completion and accuracy of their power point.
Students will also be assessed using an end of chapter test.
