Process Components
Math Talk
Pull up tens frames powerpoint. Go through slides rearranging dots on slides to
challenge students.
*Anticipatory Set
Have students get knee to knee and tell them everything they remember about adding
from this week.
*State the Objectives (grade-level terms)
You are going to complete a worksheet and add up the number of flowers in each
butterfly.
*Instructional Input or Procedure
Each butterfly wing has a certain number of flowers. I want you to count the flowers in
the wing on the left. (Point to wing, count numbers with class.) Tell students to write
that number in the blank under the wing. Count the number of flowers in the right
wing. Write that number in the blank under that wing. When you finish you may color.
*Modeling
Count the number of the flowers on the first wing with the class. Write it on the line,
under the document camera. Count the number of flowers on the other wing (none).
Write zero in the space under the wing. Ask students how many flowers there are and
have them tell you. Write the number in the box.
*Check for Understanding
Call on students and have them help answer questions at the end.
