Achievement Targets:
Students will learn how to throw and catch a football properly. They will refine their hand eye coordination. Every student needs to
learn these basic skills to participate in most other activities.
Special Planning/Preparations (i.e. safety concerns, etc.): Footballs, pennies, and open space will be needed. We need to be aware
of possible twisting of ankles, and be aware of the people around us to help prevent hurting one another.
Procedures

Time

Intro-Activity: The students will start with a fiveminute jog around the gym while keeping a good pace.
After this the students will go through a teacher lead

Warm-up: The students will pair up and I will teach
the students how to throw a football. I will emphasize
on finger placement, pointing to where they want to

Diverse Needs
Students that are not able to run may walk.

take about five minutes. After that I will teach how to
catch a football while emphasizing on using two hands
while catching, absorbing the ball to slow down the
speed of the ball and to make a triangle with your
hands. This will take about five minutes. After this the
students will pair up and practice throwing and
catching with each other. I will have them do this for
ten minutes.
Rules: Ultimate football. To score a point, one must
catch the football past the end line. After score, the
football is given to the other team. A player must
throw or toss the football up the field to try to score. If
a player catches the football in the air they are allowed
to keep possession. A player is allowed to take 2 steps
with the football. If the football touches the ground,

the last player to touch or throw it gives possession of
the football to opposite team. NO CONTACT! Penalty,
if contact if made. Not allowed to take football out of
players hands. A player has 5 seconds to make a
throw or a toss. An unlimited player on field as long as
it is even with numbers on opposing team.
Activity: We will play ultimate football. We will split
into two teams. The game of ultimate football is
played similar to ultimate Frisbee. One team will start
with the ball on one side of the court and have to pass
the ball to the other team.

participate can be the referee or if they are able
to participate as much as they can such as walk
up and down the court insist of running.

Ending Activity/Cool-down: Get in a circle and do


some good stretches.

Closure: I will have the students gather in a circle and 3 min


ask them some key points about throwing and catching
a football. Then I will ask the students if they have any
questions or concerns.
