A Letter to Parents

Hello Parents!
My name is Ms. Herrada and your son/daughter is enrolled in my Senior English class
this year. I am looking forward to the new school year and hope you are too! I aim to provide an
educationally challenging class for your student that encourages their curiosity, critical thinking
and problem solving skills in a way that can be applicable both inside and outside the classroom.
English is a very demanding course that requires effort outside of school hours. Students
will need to bring a notebook solely dedicated to this class and something to write with
everyday. Hopefully, your child has brought home their course syllabus for you to look over and
sign off on. I look forward to this school year and cannot wait to share all that I love about
English with your student.
It is best to reach me by email at: sherrad1@asu.edu. If you ever have any questions,
comments, or concerns about your student please do not hesitate to contact me. I am pretty good
at responding to emails within 48 hours, but am involved in a lot of school activities and
appreciate your patience. I will be available to help students individually 15 minutes prior to the
beginning of the school day and after school Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4pm. I ask that you
fill out the return e-mail form included with this letter so that I may inform you of all major
upcoming due dates, projects, and/or school events. Weekly newsletters will also be posted to
my school page, outlining the previous week and noting reminders for the upcoming week, both
in my class and school wide events.
Thank you,
Ms. Herrada

Hello Principal Brown!

My name is Samantha Herrada and I am very interested in meeting to discuss my intent in
working for your school. I am a recent Arizona State University graduate with a Bachelors
degree in Secondary Education with a focus in English content. I am also a Corona del Sol
alumna and would love to be able to give back to my own high school. Through my own
professional internships with the school, it is evident Corona is still setting and achieving high
expectations; it would be an honor to be considered for a position within this team.
Professionally speaking, I expect to be another asset within you school. I have very strong verbal
and written communication skills. I am an excellent public speaker and do very well socially. I
also have proven organization and time management abilities. As my references will attest to, I
am highly effective at multi-tasking and maintaining records. Moreover, I have a great
professional relationship with the current staff.
As for the classroom, I foresee a student-based environment. I look forward to pushing students
thinking through an intriguing and rigorous course. The use of multiple levels of Blooms
taxonomy in my classroom will developing students written and verbal expression on a
multitude of platforms. A high majority of my anticipated lesson plans and activities have direct
real world application. I aim to provide a classroom that encourages students curiosity, critical
thinking and problem solving skills in a way that can be applicable both inside and outside the
classroom.
I hope to hear from you soon and look forward to setting up a formal interview. My contact
information can be found below, I will attentively await your response. Thank you.
Respectfully,

Samantha Herrada

Good afternoon Mr. Smith,

As you know, Sally has had some difficulty keeping her phone put away during her time in my
classroom. Prior to this email she has been asked on a few occasions to put her phone away, has
had her phone taken away twice, and I have spoken to you on the phone. As Im sure you
remember, the cell phone usage policies are clearly outlined in both the schools handbook and
in my classrooms syllabus. The school holds a zero tolerance policy for cell phone usage, and
my classroom complies with this policy.
The major concern I am having with the phone is that it is a distraction in class. Specifically,
Sallys performance could be increased if she is not so focused on her phone. This will also help
to keep students around her focused as well. The other worry I am having is that due to the
frequency of this issue, it is now becoming an insubordination concern.
I am thinking the best way to solve this is for the three of us to get together. I am hoping that if
we all sit down together we can get to the root of this issue and put it behind us. Please let me
know when you are available to do so, I will be as flexible with my schedule as possible so we
can figure this out at the soonest available time.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,

Samantha Herrada
