The Unit of Measurements lesson is part of the unit where we are establishing different objects to
measure items around the classroom. Trying to help the students understand and recognize that there are
different units of measurements that could be used to measure items, and that all things have different
sizes.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Given a visual aid, TLW measure different items with a ruler for a certain unit of measurement (inches), and
measure that same items with a yardstick (meters). (Blooms taxonomy: comprehension)
Given a handout, TLW explain the difference between all of the items that were measured, and identify that not
everything can be measured with the same unit of measurement (Blooms taxonomy: comprehension, analysis)
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
Given a visual aid the student will be able to measure the length of an object by
selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, and yardstick.
MATERIALS:

This lesson connects to our previous lesson because, we discovered in last weeks lesson that in order to measure items
you have to use items such as; rulers, and yardsticks. We also learned last week that each object has a different unit of
measurement.
By the end of his lesson, the learners will be able to be assessed on the material given to them this week and
understand the content that was taught.
3.) Explain to the students which items around the classroom needs to be measured and allow them time
to move around the class to do so. Note: Each table will be given a different object to start with and
rotate and the class0room. (20 minutes)
4.) As a class, review the worksheet and record the measurements each student received on the smart
board. (15 minutes)
Closure: Host a well-conducted class discussion on the unit of measurement. Asking different students the
difference between each unit of measurement discussed in the lesson.
ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
At the end of the lesson, each student will be given a ruler or yardstick, and specific items they will be
expected to measure. This will be given in a test form and include fill in the blank as well as multiple choice3
questions.
MODIFICATIONS:
Modifications will not be included in this lesson. Most of the material will be conducted as a class, that
way it is effective for students of all backgrounds.
