Opening/Framing the Lesson/Introduction/Early Assessment
Tell the students that we are going to be learning about
shapes! They will learn how to identify different shapes and
create them using digital tools. Ask them what they know
about shapes and if they can find a few around the
classroom. First show them the different shapes and
instruct them to try it themselves.
The Lesson Structure: (describe your Activities)
1.) Each student will have their own iPad. They are not
allowed to turn them on until you instruct them to.
2.) Demonstrate the different shapes: squares, circles,
rectangles, triangles, ovals, stars, etc. under the
document camera. Explain to them what makes the
shapes different and why they are given their
assigned name.
3.) After the demonstration, leave a reference sheet
with all the shapes so that the students can see
what shapes they what to make. Each student will
use the app Geoboard to make their shapes. They
must make a total of four shapes.
4.) Once the students are done making their shapes,
ask a few volunteers to come up to the document
camera and show what shapes they made.
5.) Now its time to practice! Have the students us an
app called Shapes for kids flashcards. Students will
be able to practice learning the shapes.
6.) Once they feel confident about their knowledge of
the shapes. Have them practice saying the shapes
as you show the shapes under the document
camera. (remove the reference sheet).
Closing/Assessment
A fun way to end this activity is to have the students draw
anything they want using the app Drawing pad, BUT they
have to only use the shapes that they learned about. They
must then be able to point out the shapes that they used
to you once they are done. They must use more than four
different shapes in their drawing.

Monitor/Feedback
Make sure students are
being responsible with their
iPads and are following
along. Also, check and see
if each student is able to
access and create in the
apps.
Make sure students are
staying on task. Are they
able to make the shapes?
Do they understand? See if
they need any help. To
know if they are confident,
they will be able to say the
names of the shapes with
little to no hesitation.
