Formative assessment and feedback (S6)

To challenge and extend the
pupils my questions are: S1b,
S6b
What techniques and
strategies am I using to assess
the learning? (S6b)
How and when we I give
oral/written feedback to the
pupil against the success
criteria so that they can
respond? (S6d, S2a)

What do you think we will need to do in the next lesson?

What skills do we need to apply?
What else could we add to make our presentation more interesting
and informative?
Discussion and answers given during teaching input and questioning.
Confidence and competence using software when working
independently.
Oral feedback given during whole class discussion, when taking
feedback from questions and when children are demonstrating skills to
the whole class.
Written feedback will be given by reviewing presentations from shared
drive and leaving comments for the children to read at the start of the
next lesson (allow time to read and edit title slide accordingly)

Teaching and learning sequence: How will I teach this lesson? What will I do? The guide to my
lesson (S6a, S4 and S7)

Explain that the children will be creating a
presentation all about themselves.
Open up PowerPoint from Start menu.

If we want to open a programme where do we
look? Can anyone find the right folder/icon?

(do not type anything at the moment)

Choose a design (design tab)

Ask children if they know how to change what the
slides look like easily? i.e. Apply a design theme.
Ask children to work in pairs, see if they can work
out how to change the background on their first
slide.
Invite someone to the board to
demonstrate.
Explain that there are two ways of changing
the background of the slides. Model how to
find the design tab.
1: Click on the drop down menu to see more
themes
2: Click on background styles and choose an
option
Allow
children
to
choose
a
theme/background colour of their choice for
their presentation
Add a title and name
Ask children to navigate back to the Home tab;
remind them of the textboxes that we can type
straight into and explain that we need to add a
title and name. Why do we need to do this? As
its a presentation we need people to know what
its about and who its by think of our audience.
Model adding an All About Me title and my
name
Children add their own titles and names
(type only, do not format text yet)
Change the font, size and colour of text
Explain that to make our presentation more
interesting and exciting we can use different fonts
and colours.
Does anyone know what we need to do first
to change the text we have already typed?
Take
feedback,
invite
to
board
to
demonstrate.
Highlight, model how to click and drag the
mouse to highlight the title.
What do we do next? Take feedback.
Change the font using the drop-down list,
change the size using the adjacent drop
down number list, change the colour using
the underlined A button
Ask children to format their title and sub-title by
changing the font, size and colours. Remind them
that we are making this for an audience our
friends or teachers so it needs to be something
easy to read as well as interesting to look at.

Children talk to the person

sitting next to them about how
they think they change the
background. One person (from
whole class, not per pair)
comes
to
the
board
to
demonstrate.

Children
format
the
background to one of their
choice.

Children add their own titles

and names using the keyboard.

Children format their text using

the tools discussed.

(5 minutes to log
off
and
have
everyone
lined
up and ready to
go)

Does anyone know how to underline text, or

make it bold? Take feedback.
Model highlighting the text again, and using
the B I U buttons

Explain that next lesson we are going to add a

photo of ourselves and some writing. What skills
will we need for this? What will we need to do
before the lesson? Take photos and upload them
to the computer, skills: adding new slides, adding
text boxes, importing pictures

Children save their work in the

appropriate folder as modelled,
before logging computers off.

Save presentations and give them a file name

Explain that we need to save our work and give it
a name. Why? So we can carry on next time/so
we can find our work on the computers.
Model:
File > Save as > Year 2 > All About Me
Presentations
What would be a good file name? Take
feedback.
First name only (or first name and initial) and
All About Me (i.e. Abi T All About Me)
Ask children to close PowerPoint and log the
computers off, model doing this using the Start
menu and remind children they should not be
turning computers off using the buttons on the
tower.

Assessment : Identify the progress pupils have made in this lesson (S6)
Identify with a code any children who have exceeded or not achieved the success criteria for this
lesson. In the third column, indicate what you are going to do to meet each identified childs needs as a
result of assessments made.
