IEP Case Study

Artifact Rationale

1) Briefly describe the artifact and identify the CEC standards connected to the artifact.
The IEP Case Study was completed on a student with a disability that involved the
collection of background information and pertinent school related data regarding the student.
With this assignment, I was actively engaged in the participation of the IEP team process. The
artifact discusses IEP team meeting observations, components of the IEP process, content of the
IEP, a statement of the present levels of academic achievement and functional performance, a
statement of measurable annual goals, and a statement of special education and related services
and supplementary aids. The CEC standards connected to this artifact are standards 1, 3, 6, & 7:
learner development and individual learning differences, curricular content knowledge,
professional learning and ethical practice, and collaboration.
2) Describe the knowledge and skills you mastered while completing the artifact. Relate
your statements to the specific standards aligned with the artifact.
The knowledge and skills mastered while completing this artifact were in relation to
learner development and individual learning differences (CEC 1), curricular content knowledge
(CEC 3), professional learning and ethical practice (CEC 6), and collaboration (CEC 7). I have
gained skill sets and knowledge in relation to my understanding of how learners grow and
develop. I further recognize the patterns of learning and development that vary individually
within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas. I have gained
skills and mastery in designing and implementing developmentally appropriate and challenging
learning experiences for diverse learners. In addition, I have a vast understanding of diverse
cultures and communities to ensure an inclusive learning environment. This environment should

ensure that all students meets the high standards set forth. Furthermore, I have engaged in
ongoing professional training and learning. I have used evidence to continually evaluate my
practice, as my choices and actions affect learners, families, other professionals, and the
community. I have adapted my practice to meet the needs of each learner. Lastly, I have sought
appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning. I have
collaborated with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community
members to ensure learner growth.
3) Describe the ways in which your students were or will be positively affected by your
mastery of the standards reflected by this artifact.
My future students will be positively affected by my mastery of the standards reflected by
this artifact. I have previously observed IEP Team Meetings, but this was the first opportunity I
had to take an active role in the process. I have gained many new skills, knowledge, and insights
in relation to the IEP process. I have seen the importance of advocating for the students best
interests. I will take what I have learned and will use it as a point of reference for my future
students and their IEPs. I will use my mastery of learner development, learning differences,
professional learning and ethical practices, as well as leadership and collaboration in the future.
These standards are extremely important to have mastered in relation to the IEP process.
