About me

I have been teaching Mathematics for 3 years

at Colquitt County High School.
I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in
Mathematics Education from Kennesaw State
University in 2012
I am in my last semester of the Masters
Degree in Instructional Technology at
Kennesaw State University which I began in
August 2013.
I am also studying to receive my Gifted
Endorsement

About my school
Colquitt County High School is located in Moultrie, Ga.
Colquitt County High School is the only high school in
the county.
The high school has student population of 1,656
The high school services grades 10-12
We have a drop out rate of 4.6%
We have an attendance rate of 94.6%
11.25% of our student population is enrolled in Special
Education Programs
13.15% of our student population in considered gifted
12.14% of our students are ESOL Programs
7.75% of students are considered Migrant.

Hospital and Home Bound

What is it?
This program helps to service our students who
are required to miss a large amount of school due
to health reasons.
Students must be out from 2 or more weeks to
receive this service.
There are 11 staff members who currently work
for this program.
Students miss school for long periods of sickness,
surgeries, pregnancy leave, family emergencies,
etc.

Original Plan
The original plan for my Capstone project was
to create an online database to help keep these
students who participate in this program up to
date on their school work while they were out.
I planned to start with the 10 th grade and work
my way up.
This proved to be a huge undertaking so I took
it down to one unit in the 10th grade and put a
professional development piece to help teach
my fellow math teachers how to use the Data
system

New Plan
After choosing to use Desire 2 Learn (D2L)
as my learning management system, I saw
that this D2L could not only be of good use
to the Hospital and Homebound children but
to all students who were enrolled in the
course.
I changed my plan to be more of a Blended
learning and supplemental material system
for all students enrolled in the course.

given 2 presentations of how to use D2L
Meet regularly with the teachers using the
system for feedback
Teach students how to use the D2L system
Teach Hospital and Home Bound Staff how
to use the D2L system

Experience and Results

The teachers and students loved it
Approximately 4 students were serviced on
the Hospital and Home Bound program
Approximately 50% of regular students used
D2L
The math team is excited to continue to add
resources and courses to the D2L database
for our students to use.
