Assignment II: Functional Writing

Read the situation below and complete the assignment that follows.

Situation
Your name is Brian Fantana. You have recently learned that your school will be
banning cell phones. You think this is outrageous, and are interested in having
filmmaker Tim Burton come and tell the story of this injustice as in the form of a
film.
The school has had many problems with cellphone use, and bullying via texts and
social media. The solution that the school district has come to is to ban the use of
all cellphones, and to check students for possession of cellphones on school
property.
You have decided to write a business letter to Tim Burton, filmmaker and owner of
Tim Burton Productions, requesting that he make a film about this injustice and
unfair treatment of students. The film should inform viewers of these unfair school
rules and treatment, and of the reactions of students to these new rules.

Assignment

Write a business letter to persuade Tim Burton,

filmmaker and owner of Tim Burton Productions, to
make a film that will inform the public about the
ban of cellphones in the Grande Prairie Public
School District. Provide enough information to convince
Tim Burton of the importance of supporting this
story in film so that students can fight to have the rules
reversed and cellphones allowed on school grounds once
again.
