Participating in this english course with Professor Rosenfeld this spring semester was
interesting. I am grateful I took it because I have gained a few skills from it. I have learned how
to write an advanced thesis by incorporating a counterargument. I have also learned to be
organized with my writing by knowing where certain arguments and counterarguments should be
placed in my paragraphs. For instance, when writing I would express all my thoughts but I never
bothered to think that certain sentences and arguments would sound a lot stronger and organized
if they are placed with sentences that complement each other. In addition, I learned to write
universal arguments rather than my own opinions and thoughts. Writing constantly in this class
has contributed to my improvement in writing because now I have learned that when writing, it
is important to introduce an idea and take it sentence by sentence to explain it, add supporting
details and sources, and then transition into the next idea.
My perspective about writing has been changed taking this course. I have learned that
writing is not always about writing grammatically well but being able to convey your thoughts
efficiently using supporting arguments or ideas. As for me, my biggest accomplishment in this
class was learning to just write and express my ideas freely, instead of over thinking what I
should and should not write when starting a draft. This being my biggest accomplishment, I have
learned that getting my point across is important but how you do so is just as important.

Knowing the purpose of what you are writing about and to what audience you are writing too is
also one of the most essential things I have learned from this course.
In my essay, The Fantasy of a College Education, I made a few revisions to make my
essay flow even better. The first change that I made in my essay was in the second paragraph,
which was being clear as to who I was referring to(those who support a college education and
those who oppose it). In addition, one of the arguments that I wrote seemed to be more of my
opinion rather than a universal argument; this argument has been reworded to be a universal
argument. The next change I made was in the fourth paragraph; the counterargument was moved
to the beginning of the paragraph instead of being placed towards the end of it because the
counterargument did not complement the other sentences. It seemed as if it was just randomly
placed there.
This being my second semester at CSUN, it is more than obvious that I will once again
come across writing. Although this time I am more at ease because taking English 113B with
Professor Rosenfeld has allowed me to practice and improve my writing by teaching me what I
need to work on. I know that the skills I have gained from this course will be useful and helpful
for what college writing will consist of because in this course we have partaken in analyzing
texts and incorporating them into our essays, and learning to be creative when writing essays.
Despite the difficulties I faced taking the English 113B course this fall it has been a good
experience because it has allowed me to gain a few skills, change my perspective about writing,
and it will better prepare me for the years ahead in college. I do not wish anything had been
different about this course because not only has my writing developed and grown from it but I
know that each and every one of us partaking in this class has learned from one anothers
writing.
