Students transitioned into a circle and practiced all parts while

moving around
Students get into a circle and kneel down for low parts and

jumping up for high parts

Teacher reacted to behavior problems.

Positives:

Students engaged with circle part, moving around, jumping up and

down. Movement reinforced concept of low and high. Kids
transitioned very nicely into and out of circle.

Constructive Criticism and suggestions for improvement:

Waited a long time at end to correct behavior.
Keep moving and behavior will correct itself.

Betty Starobinsky
This was definitely not on the list of my most impressive lessons. However,
I dont like to fabricate my lessons and I dont like to prep the students prior to
videotaping. Unfortunately, sometimes lessons do not come out well. A lot can
affect the success of a lesson. In this case, I saw the students after lunch. This
was also the first time they got to experience the ribbons. However, I think it is
important to see the bad with the good.
I thought I did a great job of modeling for the students. Although
sometimes it takes a lot of time out of instruction, I think it is important for
students to see what you want them to do. At least if there is a proper
demonstration, students should know what to do when the activity starts.

I like that the lesson called for varied activities that still centered on the
Aim. I think this is an important part of a lesson, that unfortunately was missing
from the listening lesson.
I could have done more vocal correction. I could have and should have
corrected the parts that I thought could vocally be stronger. I could have modeled
and had them repeat. When dealing with the second verse of the song, Im A
Superhero, I should have treated it similar to the first. I should have reviewed it
line by line and for some reason, although it was written in my plan, I didnt do
this.
There were many transitions in this lesson, because I wanted for the
students to move and to constantly change activity. However, a downfall of this
was that a lot of time was lost transitioning. I would like to find some type of
transition song that can help make it a smoother transition and cut the amount of
time spent moving around the classroom.
Finally, I probably should have not chosen to videotape the first time the
students were using ribbons. They were very excited, and students who normally
are very attentive and listen to directions, were distracted and not following
directions. Since the camera was set up in the beginning of the class to show the
students in their rug spots, when they moved to their circle spots, it cut off the

students who were misbehaving. So by looking at the video, it doesnt give the
full picture of students who are bent down and playing with ribbons when they are
not supposed to, and the students next to them beginning to bend down as well.
My mentor had suggested that I should keep moving. After she watched the
video, we sat down to discuss her thoughts. She feels that had I quickly
transitioned to the next activity that the children would not have had an
opportunity to misbehave. For their age, it took too long for them to stand there
without the ribbons.
