Initial Meeting Notes: Certified Athletic Trainer Co-Workers
3/23/15
I was able to have one meeting with three of my Volunteer Sports Medicine Student Aids,
two of which are associated with the Sports Medicine Club. During this meeting, I prompted the
students with the project proposal that I had created for the instructional program, prior to
discussing their thoughts and opinions on the project. All of the students that I spoke with have
completed rotations with other Virginia Tech teams; however, all three of them have been full
time students with the Virginia Tech Womens Soccer team for at least one year.
Below are the topics and general responses that were discussed during my meetings with my
Volunteer Sports Medicine Student Aids.
General thoughts and opinions on the instructional program idea
All of the students stated that they would use this instructional program to benefit their
learning outcomes and ability to complete hands on activities with their teams.
All of the students seemed enthusiastic about the instructional program and suggested
that it would be a good program to create.
All of the students suggested that they believed that other students would utilize this
instructional program as well.
One of the instructional students suggested that at times, she is nervous to ask for the
certified athletic trainers to take time out of their day to teach them taping and wrapping
techniques.
They all suggested that they would enjoy being able to complete taping and wrapping
techniques on their athletes if they had the knowledge, confidence, and skills to do so.
Thoughts and opinions regarding the list of potential taping and wrapping techniques
All of the students suggested that they would like taping techniques that are seen most
often in athletic to be included into the instructional program. In their opinions, this
includes taping and wrapping techniques for the ankle, hip, shoulder, wrist, etc.
Thoughts and opinions regarding my instructional strategy plan.
One of the students suggested that she would learn these taping and wrapping techniques
best from the written instructions and graphics.
Another one of the students suggested that she would learn these taping and wrapping
techniques best from a demonstrational video that would coincide with the written
instructions. She specified that a demonstrational video that included verbal instructions

would be too over whelming. She further explained that she has an easier time focusing
on the steps with written instructions, rather than having to focus on both the verbal
instructions and video of the steps.
They all agreed that most of the time, the different types of materials used in taping and
wrapping techniques confuse them.
