Math This week students worked on interpreting circle graphs, finding

mean, median, mode, and range of a data set, and how to make a graph to
solve a problem. We reviewed Topic 18 and took our test today. The graded
tests will come home on Monday. Our next topic will be on Transformations,
Congruence, and Symmetry.

Reading

We are not doing our final textbook story of Sweet Music in

Harlem. We are, instead, going to spend the last two and a half weeks (is
that all we have?) doing a novel study for the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

Grammar We will spend next week reviewing the grammar skills for
this unit and then taking Unit 6 grammar quiz. It will be the last grammar quiz of the year!

Writing Most of writing time this week was consumed with taking the
End of Year Writing Prompt. We changed our writing prompts to align more
with the college and career ready standards. Students had to read multiple sources on Harriet Tubman and then pull information from the various
sources to write an expository essay.

Spelling Next weeks spelling words are easily confused words. Students need to practice the meaning along with the spelling so they will
know the difference when the word is given in a sentence. PRACTICE!
PRACTICE! PRACTICE! www.spellingcity.com/triton5

Social Studies We finished up chapter 10 this week and filled out

our study guide. Our test will come on Monday. This will be the final Social
Studies test of the year. We will not be testing over our final chapter. Our
final chapter will be on how the nation grew. We will read about and discuss the War of 1812, the Louisiana Purchase, and westward expansion.

Science We have begun our Project Lead The Way Robotics & Automa-

tion module. We didnt get much time for the lessons due to ISTEP testing
last week, so we worked hard at fitting lessons in this week. Students
learned about various types of robots and began building their robotic vehicle.

Note From the Teacher:

After finally finishing our ISTEP+ testing, SRI Lexile testing, and our spring writing prompt, we are finished with testing for the year. Hooray! Students have worked hard
and pushed through these last several weeks of grueling tests.

We only have two more weeks of grades being taken in each subject. Ive emphasized to
the students the importance of making these last few tests and homework assignments count. It
can make or break some students grades. Lets finish strong!
We are currently selling Camp Amigo DVDs for $6 apiece. The video is over 20 minutes long
and contains more than 400 pictures. It is a great keepsake for our trip. If you are interested in
purchasing one, please let me know. You can pay with cash or check (made out to Triton Elementary). I will be burning the DVDs until the last week of school.
