Overall Goal of Lesson:


Around the world, HIV/AIDS adversely affects the lives of millions of people, particularly children.
HIV/AIDS is preventable, and no child should be born HIV-positive.
Instructional Objectives:
Students will:

Analyze statistics and make conclusions from the data.

Teacher Input/Lesson Activity:


Bell ringer
Start off asking students what they know about HIV/AIDS already. While discussing it students will
fill out the K-W-L chart. Then we will watch combating HIV/AIDS in Malawi. This will help them
see how serious HIV/AIDS is.
Show Video about HIV/AIDS in Malawi
Modeling:
Read (AIDS Epidemic) as a class
Guided Practice:
The teacher will show the students an example on how to map the percentages of HIV in sub Saharan Africa.

After completing the example the students will then try to work indecently.
The teacher will walk around the room making sure students are understanding the assignment.
Independent Practice:
Using the graph given, map the countries that have HIV in sub Saharan Africa.

Lesson Closure:
Have students take sticky notes and answer these questions.

Assessing the students maps and making sure they labeled them correctly.
Assess there knowledge on what was discussed in class by seeing how well they do on the closure quiz.
Assess the students K-W-L chart to see what they have learned.
