DELEGASI UNTUK INDONESIA,

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM DAN ASEAN

Jakarta, 20 September 2013

Dear EHEF 2013 Visitors,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the European Higher Education
Fair (EHEF) in Surabaya and Jakarta, Indonesia, organised by the
European Union (EU) in cooperation with the Indonesian Ministry of
Education and Culture.
Responding to the high interest from the public in Indonesia, the
EU decided to organise the 5th EHEF in Indonesia to present
study opportunities available in Europe. The previous four EHEFs
organised in Jakarta were each visited by more than 10,000 visitors.
A total of 120 exhibitors representing European Higher Education
Institutions (HEIs), National Representatives / EU Member States
and the EU Delegation are participating in the EHEF this year. Of course this is just a small fraction
of Europes 4,000 HEIs.
The European Union (EU) is one of the worlds most exciting destinations for international students.
In addition to exceptionally high academic standards and cultural diversity, the universities in Europe
also offer a wide range of courses that are taught in English as well as other European languages.
Studying in the EU is much more than gaining academic quali cations. In the EU, you will discover
a truly interesting and pleasing panorama of nations, peoples and social institutions. You can learn
new languages, enjoy a rich diversity of cultures, sharpen your social skills and make new friends
from around the world.
There are a total of 3,500 new Indonesian students starting studies in Europe every year and more
than 1,300 students are nanced by the scholarships provided by the EU and its Member States. For
the self- nanced students, as you will discover in this Fair, the tuition fees in many universities in the
EU Member States are modest and in certain cases they may be waived altogether.
The EHEF will provide you with useful information about studying in Europe as well as information on
scholarships provided by the EU, such as Erasmus Mundus and those from the EU Member States
as well as the Government of Indonesia. I am sure that this will help you make the initial step towards
an exciting and rewarding journey of studying in Europe.
Thank you for devoting your time to visit the EHEF 2013. I wish you all the best in nding study
programs and scholarship opportunities that suit your academic needs. Come to Europe and
experience how innovation and tradition exist side by side.
Yours sincerely,

Colin Crooks

PROFILE

Higher education institutions are public, state and private. Under the Higher Education Act, they are classified
as university type (24 public, 2 state and 3 private) which offer study programmes at all three levels of higher
education and non-university type (2 public and 43 private) which offer mainly Bachelors programmes but may
also provide Masters programmes.
Completed secondary education with a schoolleaving examination is the basic prerequisite for entry into Bachelors
and non-structured Masters programmes. Detailed admission requirements are set by a relevant higher education
institution and usually include an entrance examination. Higher education can take forms of full-time courses,
distance-learning courses or a combination of both. Students have to follow a study plan within an accredited
degree programme; accreditation is awarded by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports on the basis of a
recommendation of the Accreditation commission.
Study programmes at higher education institutions cover almost all areas of science and arts. They are usually
subdivided into study fields which are, depending upon their content, included in the socalled basic study fields.
Creation and provision of study programmes is one of the recognised academic rights and freedoms of higher
education institutions, so their number and prevailing orientation changes in years.
Studies are duly completed if students obtain their qualification through:
A Bachelors degree programme which ends with the final state examination, part of which is usually the
defence of a thesis, graduates are awarded the academic title Bachelor (Bc.), in the field of art,
Bachelor of Arts (BcA).
A Masters degree programme which ends with the final state examination or Advanced Masters Procedure,
part of which is the defence of a thesis, graduates mostly obtain the academic title Master (Mgr.) or
Engineer (Ing.).
A Doctoral degree programme which ends with the state doctoral examination, graduates mostly obtain the
academic title Doctor (Ph.D.).

Introduction on country represented

Finland, officially the Republic of Finland, is a Nordic country situated in the Fennoscandian region of Northern
Europe. 5.4 million people live in Finland with the majority concentrated in its southern regions. Politically, it is a
parliamentary republic with a central government based in the capital of Helsinki, local governments in around
300 municipalities and an autonomous region, the land Islands. Other larger cities include Tampere, Turku, Oulu,
Jyvskyl, Lahti and Kuopio.
Finland joined the United Nations in 1955, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
in 1969, the European Union in 1995 and the eurozone at its inception in 1999. During this time, it built an extensive
Nordic-style welfare state.
Finland is one of the world's wealthiest nations. According to some measures, Finland has the best educational
system in Europe and has recently been ranked as one of the world's most peaceful and economically competitive
countries. It has also been ranked as one of the world's countries with the highest quality of life. In 2010, Newsweek
magazine ranked Finland as the overall "best country in the world" after summing various factors.
Description of the education system
The welfare of Finnish society is built on education, culture and knowledge. The flexible education system and
basic educational security make for equity and consistency in results.
The Finnish education system is composed of:
nine-year basic education (comprehensive school) for the whole age group, preceded by one year of voluntary
pre-primary education
upper secondary education, comprising general education and vocational education and training
(vocational qualifications and further and specialist qualifications)
higher education, provided by universities and polytechnics
In Finland, pre-primary education, basic education and upper secondary education and training, complemented by
early childhood education and before- and after-school activities, form a coherent learning pathway that supports
children's growth, development and well-being.
The Finnish education system has no dead-ends. Learners can always continue their studies on an upper level
of education, whatever choices they make in between. The practice of recognition of prior learning has been
developed in order to avoid unnecessary overlapping of studies.
Students' opportunities to progress from one level of education to the next is safeguarded by legislation. Both
general and vocational upper secondary certificates provide eligibility for further studies.
Higher education is offered by universities and polytechnics. Both sectors have their own profiles. Universities
emphasise scientific research and instruction. Polytechnics, also known as universities of applied sciences, adopt
a more practical approach.
Adult education is provided at all levels of education. Adults can study for a general education certificate or for a
vocational qualification, or modules included in them, take other courses developing citizenship and work skills,
or pursue recreational studies.

DAAD
Introduction on country represented
Situated in the heart of Europe, Germany shares borders with many European countries such as: Denmark in the
north, Poland and Czech Republic in the east, Austria and Switzerland in the south, France and Luxembourg in the
south-west and Belgium and the Netherlands in the north-west. With 80 million inhabitants including foreigners
(8%) in September 2012, Germany is the most populous country in the European Union. Germany has been the
home of some of the most prominent researchers in various scientific fields. The internationally-acknowledged
excellence of German researchers, academics, scientists and artists is reflected particularly in the numerous
Nobel Prizes that Germans have won. Today, German engineers and scientists, above all in nanotechnology and
environmental research, in engineering and technology, are world leaders.
Description of the education system
There are currently 240 state (public) higher education institutions in Germany, 40 church-maintained colleges
and 112 private universities. The German higher education system stands out with the wide range of different
kinds of higher education institutions that it offers. People can choose from traditional universities (Universitten),
universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen), universities of technology (Technische Hochschulen or
Universitten), universities of education (Pdagogische Hochschulen), universities and colleges of art, music, and
film (Kunst-, Musik-, und Filmhochschulen und Universitten der Knste), universities of applied administrative
sciences (Verwaltungsfachhochschulen) and universities of the armed forces (Universitten der Bundeswehr) as well
as distance studies universities (Fernhochschulen) and universities of cooperative education (Berufsakademien).
Most of these higher education institutions are public institutions. Germany has signed up to the Bologna Process.
Bachelor's programs deliver the principals and fundamentals in a subject; Master's programs enable students to
deepen and extend their knowledge or to expand it across various disciplines. Bachelor's and Master's replace
the previous conventional German degrees (Diplom, Magister). Additionally, the new structure and program
design focus studies more strongly on the requirements of employers, i.e. by looking at what learning outcomes
(competences) graduates have acquired and at how they are prepared for the job market (employability). Those
not seeking a research career will find that a Bachelor's degree gained after three or four years of study already
provides a professional qualification.
Description of the National Agency
The DAAD is a joint organization of German institutions of higher education. Our aim is to promote academic cooperation world-wide, especially through the exchange of students, scholars, academics, and scientists. Beside
its headquarter in Bonn, the DAAD runs 15 regional offices in selected cities and 55 information centers all over
the world. The DAAD Jakarta Office opened in 1990, documenting the long tradition of Indonesian-German ties in
higher education. Its mission is to nurture those excellent relationships. The DAAD Jakarta:
offers individual counseling on scholarships available and study opportunities in Germany;
organizes orientation sessions and webinars on higher education, study and research in Germany;
participates in education fairs;
prepares holders of long-term scholarships (pre-departure intercultural trainings);
supports DAAD-alumni and their associations as well as Indonesian institutions of higher education, e.g. by the
organization of conferences and the placement of visiting professors from Germany;
publishes the NADI (Nachrichten fr Alumni und Deutschland-Interessierte), the DAAD Jakarta alumni-journal

Introduction on country represented

Hungary is a country of 10 million people located in the heart of Europe. A relatively small country by size and
population, Hungary has made great contributions to European culture in arts and sciences during its 1010 years
of existence. Since its transformation to democracy and the establishment of a market economy in 1989, the
country once again boasts a dynamic economic, scientific and cultural life. Hungary joined the European Union
in 2004.
Description of the education system
There are 71 higher education institutions in Hungary (18 state universities, 12 state colleges, 7 none state
universities and 34 none state colleges). Hungary has been taking part in the Bologna Process since 1999, whose
most important goal is the creation of the European Higher Education Area. With the effect of September 1, 2006
the new Bologna regime of a two-cycle degree system has been introduced. The first degree programmes (3 to
4 years) lead to Bachelors degrees, while second degree programmes (1 to 2 years) lead to Masters degrees.
Unified, undivided, long-term Masters degree programmes (5 to 6 years) are offered in some fields of study, e.g.
in human medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, architecture, law and in a few programmes of art
education. In addition to the degree programmes described above, higher education institutions offer non-degree
programmes too, such as higher-level vocational trainings, postgraduate specialist training courses as well as
summer universities and partial trainings in the framework of lifelong learning. Higher education programmes may
be offered in full-time training, part-time training or distance learning courses.
Description of the National Agency
Applicants can apply for scholarships through the Hungarian Scholarship Board (www.scholarship.hu) through the
scholarship pool system.

Istituto Italiano di Cultura

Main fields of study

Description of the institution
Introduction on country represented
Founded in the 12th century, Italian Universities are the oldest educational institutions in the Western world and
they represent the vanguard of higher education especially in the field of Culture, Industrial Design, Architecture,
Applied Sciences, Medicine, Economics and Arts. Furthermore, the quality of teaching and strengthened
international relations between Italian and many foreign institutions give students many opportunities for a
fulfilling educational path and successful future career within an academic environment as well as in many other
professional fields. Students who choose to continue their course of studies in Italy may also enrich their personal
experience by living in one of the world's most important manufacturing countries.
Description of the education system
The Italian Higher Education System is divided into Universities and AFAM institutions - Institutes of Further
Training in Art and Music and their higher education programs collect more than an average of 300,000 students
per year. At the moment, there are 96 universities in Italy and 12 National Centres for Research. In regard to
the AFAM system, it is composed by 132 institutions at the moment. In line with the Qualifications Framework
for the European Higher Education Area - QF for the EHEA, Italian higher education, both for universities and
other educational institutions, is divided into 3 cycles. In order to attain a higher education course a minimum of
13 years of education at school are required (for the European benchmark 12 years of education are suitable).
The first cycle, Laurea - Bachelor of Science, requires 3 years of study equivalent to 180 ECTS and it provides
general theoretical knowledge in several different fields. The second cycle, Laurea Magistrate - Master of Science
enhances the previous general theoretical knowledge and provides an advanced specialized body of theoretical
and applied topics as well as high order skills in analysis and critical evaluation or professional applications. In
general, all the courses of this cycle require 2 years in duration that correspond to 120 credits (ECTS). There are
some courses of studies which have not yet implemented the cycle system so they require 5 or 6 years in total to
obtain a Master of Science and envisage the issue of 300 or 360 credits (ECTS). The third cycle of study includes
PhD, Specializing Master and Specialisation Degree. Furthermore, students are able to attend courses in English
for First and Second Cycle programs. In fact, some universities have just introduced such courses into their
education program and most of them offer PhDs in English.

Description of the institution

Istituto Marangoni was founded in 1935 by Giulio Marangoni. It was a school

to train professionals and technicians who were highly specialized in the
world of fashion.

Description of the institution

Istituto Marangoni has over 40,000 alumni from 92 different countries which
represent the heritage of the school.
In the past few years, Istituto Marangoni has opened new campuses in
London in 2002, Paris in 2004, and most recently, in Shanghai in 2012.
Today Istituto Marangoni continues to successfully "teach fashion", as its
founder wished. It is with the same spirit of exploration, that it has decided to
"teach design", through two distinct schools which are strongly united with the
same pedagogy (the symbiosis of design and management), offering training
in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are divided into
three departments of interior, industrial and visual design, supported by an
exceptional and unique collaboration with the guru of Italian design: Giulio
Cappellini. Beside, there will be an exceptional 1:10 teacher student ratio in
design programmes.

In 1981 it was officially recognised by the Ministry of Public Education (now
known as The Ministry of Education, University and Research).
DOMUS ACADEMY
Domus Academy is a post-graduate school, offering one-year master courses

school, open to students and teachers from all over the world. And right from
the start, the school has attracted a highly diverse international enrollment.
Strongly rooted in Italy, Domus Academy works in an international perspective,
in order to enrich, spread and update the design culture. Domus Academy is
a real point of connection between design, fashion and management culture.

Introduction on country represented

The Netherlands, also known as Holland, is situated in the west of Europe and borders Germany to the east,
Belgium to the south and the North Sea to the north and west. From Holland, many European capitals are within
easy reach. Brussels is two hours by train, and a short flight from Amsterdam will take you to London, Paris,
Madrid or Berlin. Holland's relatively small area of just over 41,000 square kilometres is home to more than 16
million people. Dutch is the official language, and because of their interest in other cultures, many Dutch people
speak English very well. You dont need to speak Dutch to study here.
Description of the education system
Holland has various types of higher education institutions. The two main types are research universities and
universities of applied sciences. A third, smaller branch of higher education are the institutes for international
education, which offer programmes designed especially for international students.
Research universities are mainly responsible for offering research-oriented programmes in an academic setting.
Many programmes at research universities also have a professional component and most graduates actually find
work outside the research community.
The universities of applied sciences (in Dutch: 'hogescholen') offer programmes that focus on the practical
application of arts and sciences. Getting practical work experience through internships is an important part of the
professional study programmes offered at these institutions.
Institutes for international education (IE) offer advanced training and courses in a wide range of fields. Most of
these are part of a research university. There are six large IE institutes which focus on the exchange of knowledge
in a setting of small, intercultural groups. They are facilitated by teachers with extensive experience in working in
developing countries. IE institutes offer various types of education including short courses, master's programmes
and sometimes PhD programmes.
Description of the National Agency
The Netherlands organisation for international cooperation in higher education, Nuffic for short, is funded by the
Dutch government. As an independent, non-profit organisation based in The Hague in the Netherlands, Nuffic
supports internationalisation in higher education, research and professional education in the Netherlands and
abroad, and helps improve access to higher education worldwide.
Nuffic Neso (Netherlands Education Support Office) Indonesia provides you with all sorts of information about
studying in Holland. Ranging from information about the Dutch higher education system, to a complete and
transparent database with 1,700 international study programmes.
Nuffic Neso Indonesia manages StuNed scholarship programme, a bilateral cooperation between the Dutch and
Indonesian government. Each year Nuffic Neso Indonesia sends approximately 200 Indonesian students to study
in the Netherlands through this scholarship programme. Nuffic Neso Indonesia also organises the Orange Tulip
Scholarship programme, a joint cooperation among Dutch higher education institutions, Dutch companies and
Indonesian ministries.
Nuffic Neso Indonesia facilitates institutional cooperation between Dutch and Indonesian higher education
institutions, and various Holland Alumni activities in Indonesia.

ROMANIA

Introduction on country represented

Romania is one of the largest countries of Europe (the size of the United Kingdom or roughly half of France), with
a population of approx. 22 million inhabitants. Along with the Romanians, Hungarians, Germans, Serbs, Turks
and other minorities also live in the country. Most of them are of Greek-Orthodox religion, but there are also many
Catholics, Protestants, Evangelical, Muslims and others.

Introduction on country represented

Spain has a wide education system full of opportunities and suitable for all academic backgrounds. Spain is the
destination of many foreign students who also want to learn Spanish and have a wide offer of cultural activities.
Spain is among the three European countries with the highest number of youth exchanges. The Spanish Education
System provides a wide range of programs at all levels of education in a multicultural atmosphere.

Often compared to a "Latin island in a Slav sea", Romania features a unique familiar feeling in Eastern Europe: its
language of a Latin origin, the Latin alphabet (quite rare in this part of Europe) and moreover the Latin temperament
and friendliness of its people - all make Romania a place where most visitor feel very comfortable.

The quality and the excellence of Spanish Universities are combined with high-quality research and scientific
learning. Some of its scientific departments are ranked among the best in Europe.

There are many tourist attractions in Romania: some of them are unique in the world, as the enchanting monasteries
of Bucovina with their churches entirely covered with 16th century frescoes on the outside walls, appearing among
hills and woods as an illustrated Bible open on all the pages.
Unique is also Transylvania - "the Land across the woods" (also known as Siebenbrgen in German), a vast
province of Romania with its lovely medieval towns and fortresses at the foothill of the Carpathians, rich with
precious Saxon heritage treasures...
Description of the education system
In Romania education is considered to be a national priority, the entire educational system being protected by the
Constitution and by organic laws (the Education Law), specialized laws, governmental decisions and orders of the
Minister of National Education. These legislative acts laid the foundation for the reform of the Romanian education
system and allowed its opening and upgrading as compared to the educational systems of the highly developed
countries of the world.
The Romanian higher education system is in line with the Bologna Agreement. As a result, Bachelors programs
take 4 years to complete. However, some programs last longer for example, some technical fields, medicine
and architecture. Masters programmes take 2 years beyond the Bachelors degree. Masters programmes are
a prerequisite for admission to Ph.D. programmes. Ph.D. programmes usually take 3 years to complete. Under
special circumstances, the duration of study may be extended by 1 or 2 years.
Description of the National Agency
University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest (UPB) is a public funded higher education institution founded in 1818 being
the oldest and the largest technical university in Romania. UPBs foremost mission is engineering training at all

public and private universities offer Official degrees that are listed on the Spanish Official University Degree
Catalogue, and are authorized by the government.
Description of the education system

follows:
