COLLISION
REPAIR
This program introduces the student to the tools used and
elementary repairs completed in the collision repair
industry. This includes an introduction to the refinishing
process that forms the basis for all automotive refinishing
work. Surface preparation, material selection, and the use
of hand and power tools, including automotive spray guns
will be covered. Refinishing, spot repairs and color
matching with a variety of refinish materials will be
stressed. Defect analysis causes and cures will also be
covered. If college level work is attained, student may
earn up to 14 LCC credits.

Student learning outcomes include but are not limited to:

Select appropriate safety equipment for mixing and applying paints

Proper set-up and adjustment of spray gun, including spray techniques
Proper hand and power tool use and safety
Apply various masking materials including: paper, plastic and liquid masking
Select, mix, spray the following paint systems: single-stage, base-coat/clearcoat and
multi-stage paint systems
Prepare a multitude of substrates for refinishing including plastic, steel, aluminum and
SMC
Use proper solvent refinishing materials and waterborne refinish systems
Mix, tint, identify and apply various solvent and waterborne refinish materials
Prepare and refinish areas in size from spot repairs to overall vehicle refinishing
Apply various specialty refinish materials effectively
Defect analysis cause and cures will be covered throughout the entire year
Customer service, estimating and basic damage analysis
Exposure to collision field through various field trips

HIGH SCHOOL/COLLEGE CREDIT

The primary focus of the Eaton RESA Career Preparation Center is to enhance a students high
school curriculum by providing an opportunity to learn a technical trade and/or to obtain a
head start on a post-secondary education.
All students completing an Eaton RESA Career Center program at Lansing Community College
have the opportunity to earn either direct or articulated college credit while completing their
high school program if specific criteria are met.
LCC credit is awarded to a student who: a) completes the high school career and technical
education course with the minimum grade point average; b) meets the performance objectives
for a specific Lansing Community College course; and, c) passes the college course final
examinations, if one is required. These credits are shown as numerical grades on the students
LCC transcript. Transcripts may be requested through Lansing Community College Enrollment
Services Department by August following course completion.
The courses listed below show the possible LCC college credits that may be available to high
school students taking an Eaton RESA Career Preparation Program.

AUTO COLLISION REPAIR

AUTB 101
Safety and Shop Operations
2 LCC Credits
This course covers safety, hand and power tool usage, and collision repair shop operations.
Included are state/federal environmental and safety regulations. Careers in the collision repair
field will be explored.
AUTB 104 Damage Analysis Estim/Cust Srv Prerequisite: Minimum 2.0 in AUTB 101 2 LCC Credits
This course introduces the student to elementary repairs that are completed in the collision
repair industry. This allows the student to become familiar with the collision repair field
environment.

AUTB 106 Refinishing I

Prerequisite: Minimum 2.0 in AUTB 101
5 LCC Credits
The material in this course will form the basis for all automotive refinishing work. Surface
preparation, material selection and the use of various refinishing equipment will be covered.

AUTB 136 Refinishing II

Prerequisite: Minimum 2.0 in AUTB 106
5 LCC Credits
This course builds on skills developed in AUTB106. Refinishing, spot repairs and color matching
with a variety of refinish materials will be stressed. Defect analysis causes and cures will also be
covered.
