MONDAY
(1C) Learning Target: Students will improve their ability
to produce a quality research-based essay. They will
show their learning by producing an MLA formatted
research paper.
(1C) Do Now: What are the important elements of a
research-based essay?
The final for this course will be a research paper of no
less than five pages (double spaced, Times New Roman,
12 point font). This will be a synthesis essay that means
you must use a minimum of three sources and use those
sources to develop an argument. It also means that you
must use at least one point from the side of the
opposition and rebut it in your paper. In other words,
you will use your enemys argument against them.
This will be explained further in class. You must include
a bibliography, and you must use MLA format for
citations. If you do not include a bibliography, or fail to
use MLA format, you will receive a zero on this final.
This essay should demonstrate all that you have learned
in English class this year It should showcase above

both relevant citation AND well developed analysis.
Your topic should relate in some way to race and the
issue of racism in the United States. The chosen topic
must be approved by the instructor.
This essay must be typed, and it will be due on the day
your class is scheduled for its final.
