Day 3
What do you think is the most important qualities for a mentor to have?
(Have a large group discussion on effective ways to communicate with management at times
of evaluations)
(As a large group review on the computers the basics of where to leave feedback, put in grades,
post class discussions and ect.)
School Messenger: Used so students can communicate live when they are online at the same
time.
Pinterest: Used so students can share articles and links that they found helpful or enjoyable
Skype: Used to communicate with each other and see them over webcam. This tool is
especially good for conference calling as a team.
(After instructor goes over above information)
Teams get together as make a list of other student collaboration resources. Then the team
will present them to the group.
(Team with the most resources will win points)
Online education provides the opportunity for people for all different
walks of life to learn together, because of this there are often times
many cultural differences. There are ethnic differences, life style
differences, and almost every kind of different in people that one can
think of. Most of the time one of the only things that distance learners
will have in common are that they are taking the same class or

education can be a
challenge; however,
when one is working in
distance education
those differences can
either be very
noticeable or not at all.
The best way to combat
cultural difference is to
in force that everyone
has the right to their
own opinion but
everyone must be
respectful of each other.
When working in
distance learning one is
often dealing with a
variety of different
experience in various
aspects of the
education. Because of
this as a professor one
must design the
instruction in such a
way that can impact all
students with different
experience.
Nontraditional learners
bring a lot to the table
when it comes to life
experience. Having this
involved in the
classroom can help the
students learn from
each other and their
experiences.

In this type of training one of the disadvatage is

learn from each other.
(Brock, 2014)
Synchronous Training
This type of training is more of the in
class training. It requires both student
and teacher to be present at the time fo
the instruction. This training can help
instructors reach multiple students with
the same ideas in one classroom session.
It often easy to talk to the instructor
about questions that the student may
have on the content. Also with this form
of teaching a instructor can get to know
their students in a more personal way
making it easier to know when they may
need more help. The students are also
more welcome to getting to know each
other and therefore setting up social
networks themselves.
Asynchronous Training
This type of training is set up so that the
instructor and the student do not have to
be present at the same time for the
instruction to take place. Often times it is
the normal online school environment
and it makes it more convinient for
students and teachers to fit into their
schedule. It gives the faculty member and
opportunity to use a variety of different
programs to make the instruction more
interesting for the students. It keeps cost
low for the school and also makes it so
students can learn more at their own
pace.
Internet
Issues
Students may have trouble with their home internet. The main
policy is to be to find a different place to use the internet until
their personal internet is available. Allow a 24 hour grace period
for technical issues; however, in order to not have the policy
taken advantage of is to in force that this can only happen once
in the class per student.
Unable to
access the
classroom
Unable to
navigate the
classroom
Students when they first start at a school online may have a hard
time finding their way around the classroom. First, a faculty
member should create a video to show them around the
classroom. This will help combat confusion from the beginning.
Next the professor needs to make it clear that they can be
contacted if they need help.
Have teams get together and brainstorm different possible technical issues that their
students become in contact with. Teams will present this information to the class.
Next have the teams get back together and come up with 10 different creative
solutions to combat these issues. The team with the most creative solution will win
points.
