Standard 5: Creating a Positive Classroom Environment

The teacher candidate uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and
behavior to create a learning environment that encourages active engagement in
learning, positive social interaction, and self-motivation. [SB 291 Section 161.380.2 (3)
The teacher is prepared and knowledgeable of the content and effectively maintains
students on-task behavior; (5) The teacher keeps current on instructional knowledge
and seeks and explores changes in teaching behaviors that will improve student
performance.]
Quality Indicator 1: Classroom management, motivation, and engagement
5C1) The teacher candidate recognizes the importance of the relationship
between classroom management, motivation, and engagement strategies and
techniques.
Quality Indicator 2: Managing time, space, transitions, and activities
5C2) The teacher candidate recognizes the necessity of managing time, space,
transitions, and activities.
Quality Indicator 3: Classroom, school and community culture
5C3) The teacher candidate recognizes and identifies the influence of classroom,
school and community culture on student relationships and the impact on the
classroom environment and learning.

Rational
The teacher uses standard five to understand individual as well as group
motivations and behavior to develop a strong learning environment that pushes active
involvement in social interactions, motivates, and develops positive learning. Teachers
are prepared and understand the content effectiveness in maintaining and keeps
students on task and not behaving. Keeping current instructional knowledge allows
teacher to select the most effective changes to improve their students performance.
In QI1 it is vital that classroom management, motivation, and engagement are all
understood by the teacher and that students are always self-motivated. Engagement
strategies by the teacher will keep students on track allowing less of an opportunity for
distraction allowing students to present full participation.
In QI2 time management keeps students on task and following a time schedule.
Teacher must analyze class time and determine if the entire class is filled where no
charger production can arise. Teacher recognizes the importance of classroom
management and utilize availability to achieve for class participation.
In QI3 the culture in the classroom has been taken into account by the teacher.
No personal distractions shall arise from students who may cause disruptions due to
culture. Teacher understands that culture is an important to a students daily life and
minimizes contradiction between students and culture.

Reflection
Teacher understands the importance of classroom management. Teacher
determines where the students sit and who they sit by as well as what they do. When
students are not properly managed room for disruption emerges. Seating charts and
floor plans will be laid out so student always know an assigned spot and do not
misbehave in undesignated areas. Student not following instructions will be warned the
first time, second time points will be deducted, and the third time students will be sent to
the office for discipline areas to be measured for their consequences. Teacher must keep
professional barrier amongst students and be their teacher.
