Abstract
"Deep Structure" in Classical Arabic Grammar and Its Impact on Contemporary Western
Linguists: Chomsky as Arabic Grammar Revivalist
This paper provides a historical comparative linguistic study of DEEP STRUCTURE in
Chomskyan transformational grammar and TAQDEER in classical Arabic grammars. This
study has two aims: First, to show the historical precedence of Muslim scholars in discussing
this issue and using it as a basic element in analyzing the Arabic language. Arab Muslim
scholars had discussed this issue of "deep structures" in their publications and studies about
13 centuries ago.
On the other hand, Western scholars had no knowledge about this issue of linguistic research
until the second half of the twentieth century thanks to American linguist Noam Chomsky. It
can be said that they were indirectly affected by the works of old Arabic grammarians in their
languages and literatures. This is the second aim of this research: i.e., to explore how old
Arabic grammar came to bear on Western grammatical tradition, especially transformational
generative grammar, which was, until recently, one of, if not, the most prominent linguistic
theory Western linguistic thought has ever known.

Error Analysis in Classical Arabic Tradition

Abstract
This research is going to discuss the Error Analysis Theory in the classical
Arabic linguistics studies, which the old Arab scholars had made them on Arabic to
both native and non-native speakers, and to show their own origin research
methodology in studying this errors and their establishing role. And to discover the
priority of Arab scholars in dealing with this important topic.
So the Arab scholars were the professors of this area. And they did not
precedence the western linguists only in this area but their research method were
applied by them also. In addition to that the Arab applied linguists showed that the
explanation of error were a psycholinguistics matter, and this is what S. P. Corder had
said about it. Who is known as a founder and the leader of this field in the second half
of the last century, who said that: the explanation of error is a psycholinguistics
matter. And moreover, Al-Jahiz death 255H AC, had explained the teaching strategies
like simplification and fossilization in interlanguage to foreigners who western
linguists talk about them and consider them as their own thinking. And finally supply
a remedy of error to avoid making them in their using through their writing and
dictation.
