Fall 2013
Looking at different situations and modes of
Mixed Mode communication. I definitely learned how people of
different cultures may communicate in a less
direct manner and perceive direct communication
as rude and brash. I also truly learned that to be
an effective leader, effective communication is
key and I learned how to communicate and
encourage a team to increase or maintain
performance

The three forces the influenced the developing of this schedule were time, availability, and how
the courses would benefit me. For the most part, all the courses I wanted to take were available
with few exceptions. However the biggest issue was time. I am a commuting student who
functions best later on in the day so those later classes were really out of the picture. I am
heavily involved with a campus ministry but thankfully, the ministry and my employer are both
incredibly friendly and understanding of students and those activities actually took second
priority when it came to schooling. Both the ministry I work at and the campus ministry I
volunteer at always say that my first duty during this time is a student so meetings were planned
around my class schedule. The only time I ran into problems is during spring when I needed to
sign up for classes but I could not sign up for classes on certain nights due to year long
commitments made the previous semester. But this ended up not really being that big of an
issue in the large scope of things.
From the perspective of thinking about how the courses would benefit me, I was pushing to take
similar classes with each other. However, I made sure that I was not taking all communications
classes or all education classes. I like learning and I like mixing it up so this was definitely
something that helped me pick out specific schedules. In the end, I was choosing classes that
would ultimately best benefit me and what I was trying to accomplish. I wish to continue working
within ministry or other non-profit or community organizations (especially if its with students) so
all my classes were choses so that I would acquire important and relevant knowledge and skills.
So far, I think I did pretty well.
