Chilton, Bruce. (2014, July 11). Christianity: The Basics (pp.123-151). Retrieved from
http://www.eblib.com
Chilton explains the basics of Christianity and how it has developed overtime, as well as
some impacts that occurred during that time period. In chapter five, he talks about the basics of
modern Christianity and how people were experiencing conflicts with their identity. Chilton uses
facts from through history to explain how this religion has evolved. For example, he claims that
professing religion was needed to attend a European university (p.129). Throughout his book,
Chilton refers to various people, various concepts, and various excerpts from different authors to
supports his explanations. This book is not just meant for those who support the religion of
Christianity, but also for others who want to understand its basics and how it has changed over
time.
Emerson, Michael O.; Shelton, Jason E. (2012, Oct. 8). Blacks and Whites in Christian America:
How Racial Discrimination Shapes Religious Convictions (pp.57-85). Retrieved from
http://www.eblib.com
Emerson and Sheltons book describes how Black and White Protestants have differences
in practices, although they believe in the same God. In chapter four, he interviews various
pastors to use as data to support the theory of racial discrimination towards the same religion.
Through the interviews, it was concluded that it was due to cultural imperatives and
epistemological explanations (p.59). What interested me in this book is realizing that there are
racial issues even between religions. Its interesting to find out that its not just a conflict
between other religions, but also between the same religions. This is a good resource to support
the fact that racism is implemented into a religious aspect, enhancing the problems that a
Christian community may face.
Morreall, John; Sonn, Tamara. (2014, Mar. 24). 50 Great Myths about Religions (pp.39-44).
Retrieved from http://www.eblib.com
Morreall and Sonns book talks about different misbeliefs that people make towards
religion without really getting their facts straight. In chapter 2, part 8, they talk about a myth
stating that religion causes violence. Included are different examples of what seems to be
religious violence that causes others to conclude this theory. It is being explained that most of
these claims seem to be subjective because although violence does happen in religion, it is found
in political ideologies such as Marxism, nationalism, and patriotism (p.41). This book is a
good resource to research what different claims are being made through different types of

religions. It has reasonable explanations to why such stereotypical beliefs are believed to be
myths.

This article talks about how Christianity is being marketed not just through various verses
of the bible, but through media as well. The fact that under 75 percent of the adult population
are Christian, is what makes marketing so successful. Marketing religion is a great way for
others to explore Christianity and learning more about it, as well enhancing a persons religious
beliefs. This reminded me of how my church has various websites and updates it with current
events, information videos, as well as being able to have an option of doing bible studies online.
Based on this journal, it shows how religion has grown innovatively to share Gods message with
other people outside from the bible. Its a god resource to refer to for the final project to see the
different themes being used to market Christianity and how it impacts others.
Footnote: I think this is a credible source because it is published in a journal, and was found in
the library search bar. Also, at the end of the journal article, the author cites his references, being
able to check back to his information.
Will Oklahoma Statehouse Get a 7-Foot Goat-Headed Statue of Satan? (2014, Jan.1).
Confederated Umatilla Journal Retrieved from

In this article, it is talking about how an organization called The Satanic Temple wants
to put a seven foot statue of goatheaded deity Baphomet. It is a controversy between these
Natives and lawmakers upon putting this statue up. The lawmakers dont think that this statue
will represent their Christian community well. But the statue reached its goal for funds of
$20,000. This article has showed me two sides of the religion controversy: The atheists vs. the
Christians. Also, it is an example how Christians feel like they feel like they are being offended
through certain images, just like this Satan statue that has been remarkably funded for.
