Dog poo bags were used to keep dog owners dogs dropping out of

the way and in the bin along the Barwon River in Geelong. This
certain management strategy controls pollution/contamination of
the waterways and earth. There are many advantages of using dog
poo bags for example, not stepping in dog poo and less pollution of
our waterways and earth. There are no disadvantages to using dog
poo bags apart from whether the bags decompose. An affective
alternative to dog poo bags would be a dog toilet this would control
the pollution and contamination of waterways and the earth with
less exess waist. I have seen an example of this in France where
there is a designated area for dogs to poo.
Fences were used at the Big Hill campsite in the Great Otway
Ranges National Park. Fences being a management strategy control
the loss of vegetation and stop paths from being made by campers
and visitors. The advantages of using fences are people remain on
a certain course and do no trample or destroy vegetation. The
disadvantages being that campers cannot access certain areas of
the camp site and fences can be an eye sore interfering with the
natural landscape. A more effective alternative to fences would be
a placement of a hedge (a natural fence) where the fences were.
This is more effective as it is a natural alternative although they
may need maintenance.
Paths were seen and utilised and walking along the Barwon River in
Geelong. Paths prevent the loss of vegetation and assist with litter
management (place bins near path). The advantages of using paths
are the minimisation of environmental damage and litter levels. The
disadvanges are that the natural land is lost in order to create the
paths. There are no real effective alternatives to paths.
Car parks were used at the Big Hill camp site at the Great Otway
Ranges National Park. Car Parks at the camp site control soil
compaction, loss/damage to vegetation and stop paths/tracks from
being created. The advantages of using car parks are that there is a
set area to park and grass/vegetation are not destroyed with
random parking. Also soil compaction is stopped and it is safer to
confine parking to a designated area. The disadvantage of a car
park is the initial loss of space and environmental impact of creating
the car park. Promoting public transport would be an effective
alternative as no one would need to drive or park anywhere.
Bins were seen and put to use while walking along the Barwon River
in Geelong. Bins control the amont of litter that is put into the
environment. The advantages of using bins are firstly, that less
litter is put into the environment therefore there less pollution and
damange inflicted on the earth and secondly, the environment
remains beautiful. The disadvantage being that a certain space in
the environment has to be provided for bin allocation. Bins have

been around for many years and have become more sophisticated
(eg. Recycling versus normal waste) therefore, there are no
alternatives.
