Abstract
The increase in the elderly population in many developing countries because of the
increase in life expectancy. Lack of attention to the elderly themselves, care givers, and
health professionals on oral health of the elderly can cause poor oral health in elderly, and
have a negative impact on quality of life in old age, and in need of oral health program
intensively.
This study used cross sectional design and implemented in Kelurahan Cipete Selatan,
Cilandak, Jakarta. Sixty elderly (age> 60 years), that able to communicate, and able to read
and write are willing to participate in this study were being sampled. Information on age, sex,
education, type of work , and the practice of oral health, oral hygiene inspection and
calculation of the rest of the teeth were collected by 3 co-assistant.
Oral hygiene, in elderly in posyandu and community elderly, both have bad category,
and there was no significant difference regarding oral health among the elderly in posyandu
with the elderly community (p 0536). There also no significant difference in practice of oral
health between the groups of elderly built with the elderly community (p 0215). And for
mastication function, the elderly in posyandu have more poor results (51.6%) than
community elderly and there is no difference between the target and the elderly elderly
community (p 1.00).
Based on this study found no significant differences in oral health of elderly in
posyandu with the community elderly, and need to increase the awareness of elderly
posyandu program in oral health care of the elderly.
