A school administrator promotes the success of all students by facilitating the

development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning
that is shared and supported by the school community.
Personal Statement: I believe that the role of the principal extends far beyond
that of a building manager. A principal must be an instructional leader and
possess an ability to espouse a synergistic culture centered on student
achievement and success.

Helping to develop a fair, feasible evaluation system

and communicating the intent of that system to
receptive HVEA members and the School Board is
a testament to the benefits of working together.
Collaboratively, my School Improvement Sub
Committee and I worked to disaggregate
achievement data and set goals for next year. We
rolled out the DRAFT to all professional staff and
allowed them to add input during grade levels
PLCs.

Through my involvement in the Education

Foundation, I have been able to work with key
community stakeholders in leveraging resources for
classroom instruction.
Through partnering with the local credit union and
district social workers, the HVEA was able to provide
over 50 resource-filled backpacks to families in need of
support.
The HVEA partners with local business to provide two
$1,000 scholarships to HVS graduates.

Pledge

To support transparency in insurance selection, the

HVEA formed an Insurance Advisory Committee.
The role is to research insurance options and openly
share findings with the membership.
Sharing the intricacies of calendar development has
helped members to understand the complexities of
putting forth a district calendar.
I developed this pledge and sent it to my entire staff
prior to the start of the school year. I often refer to tis
pledge when making tough decisions.

A school administrator promotes the success of all students by
understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger political,
social, economic, legal, and cultural context.
Personal Statement: The political arena has, and always will largely influence
the direction of public education. As public educators, it is imperative that we
are also advocates for our students. To do so, we must understand the social
and economic impact of mandates, legislation, and laws aimed at public
education.

The PAC-ATTIZER event is an event where we

invite local political leaders and to join us for
appetizers and dialogue. We encourage our
members to make PAC donations which will be
used to support pro-public education policies and
candidates.
Dialogue is the key ingredient to affecting positive
change in public education. It was refreshing to
share and learn new information about the current
state of public education - locally, statewide, and
nationally.

Reflection
Being a part of the INSPIRE U team and working closely
with our Director of Technology has helped me to better
understand what best practices in technology should look
like.
By working with administrators, teachers, and parents, we
were able to create a long term technology implementation
plan for the district. This opened my eyes to both the
challenges and benefits surrounding the world of
educational technology.
After a staff meeting pertaining to our RTI^2 model, I
allowed for staff to get in their grade level PLCs and used
a google document to collaboratively create a chart as to
what RTI^2 looks like at Johnson Elementary.

A school administrator synthesizes and applies knowledge and best
practices and develops skills through substantial sustained, standardsbased work in real settings to advance student achievement.
Personal Statement: Common Core State Standards will help ensure that our
students will graduate with skills necessary for college or a career after
graduation. However, standards alone will not change behavior and it will be
imperative that principals support their teachers in using and reflecting on
strategies (21st Century Learning, Visual Thinking, etc.) to develop the skills
necessary to advance achievement. Practice means that mistakes will be made
and, through the growth mindset, should be embraced.

The focus of the meeting was to look at MEAP, MME,

and MAP, discuss how they interface, and how they
relate to CCSS.
Through Galileo, we engaged in an Action Research
project. My research derived from a book study of
Crucial Conversations. We later presented our findings
at numerous symposiums.
In helping to facilitate staff meetings, I often incorporate
the best practice of making thinking visible as learned
through Cultures of Thinking. I would also pass out

gifts to the teachers explaining how the strategy can

be implemented.
