Context of Civil Rights, 1968-2015


-Blacks had recently won reforms such as the Voting Rights Act.
-Virtually no gay rights reforms had been instituted prior to this period.
-Womens rights had progressed slowly since the 1920s.

Because of the Civil Rights Movement in the 50s and 60s, it paved the way for a lot of first for African
Americans.

-In the U.S., requires that applicants for jobs are considered without race, color, or origin.
