Dear Ban Ki-Moon,

Hello, Im Kayla Brown a student at Plymouth Whitemarsh high school in

Pennsylvania. I am writing you this letter to inform you the importance of living in
a globalized world. Globalization is a process of interaction between people,
companies, and governments around the world so they can work together to
improve. Globalization has effects on culture, environment, political systems, and
physical well-being of people, economic development and prosperity. The standard
living for people around the world has improved because of globalization.
Globalization has improved the standard living for people because of fresh water,
food, communication around the world, technology and electricity. Globalization
also helps to advance everyone with technology and communication. An author,
Thomas Friedman said that today, Globalization is farther, faster, cheaper and
deeper. Advances in information technology has dramatically transformed
economic life all thanks to globalization. Information technology has given
consumers, investors and businesses many valuable tools to use for identifying and
achieving new economic opportunities. Some of these new opportunities are faster
informed analyses of economic trends and easier transfers for assets and
information. Globalization allows poor countries to develop economically and also
helps to raise their standard of living for the citizens. Globalization works to keep
on improving life around the world. Globalization helps people to achieve bigger
dreams and helps to better our standards of living.
Also, globalization continues to bring people together through
communication and it shows a great example of how communication is the key to
fixing problems. I remember my mom telling me about her childhood and how
different it was compared to mine. Growing up I had a television in my room and a
computer. When I got a bit older I had my first cell phone. Im very used to the
iPhone company that I even taught my grandma how to use my iPhone. Ive seen
little children with their own iPhones and when my mom was growing up her
television in her household was black and white. Technology is advancing and
improving constantly because of globalization. Without globalization the standard
way of living now in 2015 would be much different and not so advanced. More
countries would be struggling without globalization. It would be harder for
countries to communicate with each other without globalization. I believe that
globalization is the key that holds this world together. Everything would be such a
mess without it which is why Im writing this letter to show you how important it
is to live in a globalized world. Many people believe that we entered a new phase

in the world economic development. In 1950, the volume of the world trade has
increased by 20 times. From 1997 to 1999 the flows for foreign investment has
doubled. The foreign investment was at 468 billion dollars in 1997 and in 1999 it
was 827 billion dollars.
Global communications play a huge role in the cultural dimensions of
globalization. This refers to new information that spreads around the world through
technological communications. Internet, mobile phones, e-mail and satellite TV are
becoming cheaper and more available worldwide. Globalization helps the wellbeing of people and their health. Globalization helps give internet access to
information, which makes it easier for health professionals to have access and
share their knowledge, information and health ideas on the internet. Ban Ki-Moon
you have helped many people and achieved many accomplishments with the
United Nations. You were the first Asian native to serve as the United Nations
Secretary General. That is a huge accomplishment and definitely something to be
proud of. Unfortunately, the United Nations has to deal with terrorism attacks.
Terrorism attacks are dangerous and hurt people all over the world. I was reading
about the meeting you had two years ago and you had to address the Security
Council. During the meeting you said, Terrorism festers where conflicts are
endemic and where humans rights, human dignity and human life are not
protected and impunity prevails. I agreed with everything you said during the
meeting with the Security Council. You said we have to replace the terrorist
narrative with messages for peace, development and welfare. I like your ideas and
the way you want to handle this situation. I think that welcoming upcoming
international conferences on human rights will be helpful. My opinion is to
continue working on creating peace and focusing on creating a safe environment
for everyone. I think that organizations to help fight against terrorism and
organizations to help those who are struggling with past traumas.
Sincerely,
Kayla Brown
