What was the purpose of Gods

The gods were a way of explaining thing before science.
Egyptians believed that there was a god for everything.
The gods were represented at part human part animal.Usually the
animal was a symbol like hawks are in the sky close to the sun so the
sun god,Ra, is represented as a hawk

Major Deities of Egypt

Ra: Ra was the god of the sun. Ra was thought
to go across the sky during the day, and at
night fight the evil spirits of the underworld.
Osiris: Osiris is the god of the afterlife. He
married his sister Isis and was murdered by set

Temples
Temples were the homes of the gods.Temples were also a
place of worship for the egyptians. Trading and other major
gatherings also occurred in the temples.
Famous Temples
Abu simbel was a famous temple.
Abu simbel is a huge stone temple
carved into a mountain side. This
monument took around 20 years to
complete. Ramses II made beautiful
temples including Abu simbel.

Pharaohs and Mummification

Pharaohs: Pharaohs were Ancient egyptian rulers.
Pharaohs were thought to be half human half god. the had
the bet mummification and were always treated like gods.
Mummification: Mummification was the preserving of the
body for after the afterlife.When someone died, there ka,or
soul, would go to the purgatory to be judged by the gods
while your body would be left behind.The gods decided if
your ka was heavy with guilt or if you were a good person .
Your body would have to be preserved so after the afterlife
you could come back to it.

Aten
Akhenaten changed the Egyptian religion.

The Aten was born. The Aten was shown as

a sundisk.
He changed Egyptian religion from a
polytheistic government to a monotheistic
government
Religion was later change back by
Akhenatens son Tutankhamun
