NOW RECRUITING: INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNERS


The Course Development Department (CDD) in the Academic Programming and Delivery Division
(APAD) is inviting applications for part-time Instructional Designers. The position is funded by the
Strengthening Distance Education in the Caribbean (SDEC) financed by the Department of Foreign
Affairs, Trade & Development (DFATD), Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The work of the Instructional Designer will be supervised by a Curriculum Development Specialist (CDS)
in a collaborative online space for the duration of the course development activity. In execution of the
responsibilities the Instructional Designer will be expected to manage his/her work schedule to complete
assigned tasks by agreed deadlines.
The responsibilities of the Instructional Designer include:
1. Guiding course developers through the design, development and production of instructionally
sound course materials that are supported by effective multimedia and graphical content
2. Collaborating with members of the UWI Open Campus course development team in the
designated Instructional Project Management (IPM) course space to ensure that the content of the
courses assigned is:

gender sensitive,
inclusive and respectful of diversity,
complements that of other courses in the programme and,
that course materials, including multimedia elements, are consistent across courses, in
keeping with the academic programme objectives outlined in the academic programme
proposal

3. Overseeing the production of content that conforms to the Course Development Departments
guidelines to include the approved number of course units, assessments, table of specifications,
readings, multimedia scripts and learning activities outlined in the course plans.
In the execution of these responsibilities, all course design and development processes must be in
accordance with the protocols and methodologies employed by the UWI Open Campus, and the guidance
provided by the Curriculum Development Specialist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


A Masters degree in instructional design, instructional systems, distance education, open and
distance learning, educational technology, instructional technology or a related discipline.

At least 3 years of relevant curriculum/course design, open and distance learning, or teaching
experience, preferably in support of a tertiary institution.
Qualifications and/or at least 2 years of experience in project management.
ADDITIONAL REQUIRMENTS
Reliable access to a computer with fast-speed Internet connectivity
Good working knowledge of the Internet and use of Microsoft Office products
Good oral and written communication skills
An understanding of the application of adult learning principles and methods
A client-centred orientation and strong interpersonal skills
Competence with information and communication technology in recognition of the fact that daily
interactions with course developers, reviewers, and department colleagues are carried out virtually
Ability to work under conditions of multiple competing deadlines in a collaborative team environment
and complete projects in a timely manner
N.B. All shortlisted applicants will be required to participate in an online practical test and
interview process

Instructional Designers will be paid a fixed fee on satisfactory completion of all assigned tasks. Interested
