Michigan Standard 6: Understanding, Responding to, and Influencing Political, Social, Legal, and
Cultural Contexts:
Goal: To become aware of our political, social, and legal surroundings involving the success of
our students.
Activity: Reach out to local businesses in the community members to get them involved in the
education of our children. By utilizing Project Based Learning I will reach out to local
stakeholders in order for them to participate in the students educational process. The guests
will come into the classroom and share their expertise and how it relates to science.
Timeline: Start business contacting veterinarians, animal control, k9 officers to implement in the
Project Based Learning unit about animal adaptations.
Support: Provide venues for the meet and greets to take place. Utilize existing contacts and
affiliations with the school. Establish relationships during the summer, and explain how you like
them involved in the school and classroom.
Michigan Standard 8: Synthesizes and applies knowledge of best practices through standards
based work:
Goal: Measure the effectiveness of research-based strategies currently being used at Wolfe
Middle School.
Activity: Join the school data team to break down the data pertaining to school wide strategies to
measure their effectiveness based on student data.
Timeline: 2013-2015
Support: Have meetings to look at overall trends, and come to a consensus to see if the
strategies we are using are appropriate for our students.
