Gauthier: Plan of Work 2013-2015

Michigan Standards for the Preparation of School Principals


Michigan Standard I Visionary Leadership
Goal: Develop my knowledge of the school improvement process and explore ways of engaging
all stakeholders in the SIP process.
Activity: I will serve on the District School Improvement Team, and implement S.I.T. objectives
during P.L.C. times.
Timeline: Join the S.I.T. in November of 2013, and continue through the 2014-2015 school year.
Support Needed: My mentor will assist me as needed pertaining to school improvement
questions and initiatives.

Michigan Standard 2: Cultural and Instructional Leadership


Goal: Develop the skills of observing, prescribing, and mentoring new teachers to Wolfe.
Activity: Mentor the new Mandarin teacher, and help out with classroom management.
Timeline: 2013-2014 school year. Meet weekly with new staff member.
Support Needed: Possible release time with new teacher to implement teacher lab. Debriefing
time with leadership mentor and progress updates with mentee also.

Michigan Standard 3: Management:


Goal: To better understand procedural expectations of all staff in the building.
Activity: Work on staff handbook committee to revamp Wolfe Middle School Staff Procedural
Handbook.
Timeline: 2013-2014 school year.
Support: Assistance as needed. Review completed sections of handbook, and look at possible
results of new policy created by handbook committee.

Michigan Standard 4: Collaboration with Community:


Goal: To involve stakeholders and community members in school functions.
Activity: In charge of fundraising, setting up, and running spring formal for the middle school.
Garner community support in the marketing and planning of the dance.
Timeline: January-April of 2014

Support: Provide business contacts for donations. Acquire a purchase card for dance expenses.
Help coordinate community members to volunteer for setup, chaperoning, and take down.

Michigan Standard 5: Acting with Integrity, Fairness, and Equality:


Goal: Develop a better understanding of the districts code of conduct, implementing it, and
better understanding our student population.
Activity: Participate in student disciplinary events. Join the district Student Panel to get a
sense of our students needs in our building. Debrief Mrs. Maruca and Mr. Morris on Student
Panel meetings.
Timeline: 2012-2014 (2 years)
Support: Provide guidance during disciplinary decisions. Debrief on code of conduct
implementation. Collaborate on how to use Student Panel information to positively impact
Wolfe.

Michigan Standard 6: Understanding, Responding to, and Influencing Political, Social, Legal, and
Cultural Contexts:
Goal: To become aware of our political, social, and legal surroundings involving the success of
our students.
Activity: Reach out to local businesses in the community members to get them involved in the
education of our children. By utilizing Project Based Learning I will reach out to local
stakeholders in order for them to participate in the students educational process. The guests
will come into the classroom and share their expertise and how it relates to science.
Timeline: Start business contacting veterinarians, animal control, k9 officers to implement in the
Project Based Learning unit about animal adaptations.
Support: Provide venues for the meet and greets to take place. Utilize existing contacts and
affiliations with the school. Establish relationships during the summer, and explain how you like
them involved in the school and classroom.

Michigan Standard 7: Applies Technology to Advance Student Achievement:


Goal: Implement new strategies utilizing technology as a tool in the classroom, and share the
knowledge you have acquired.
Activity: Participate in the E3T IPad/Technology training through the Macomb Intermediate
School District. Provide support for the social studies and science department in the use of the
technology.
Timeline: Conference cohort occurs during the 2013-2014 school year. Provide support for 20142015 school year.

Support: Release time to provide mini-training sessions in the use of new technology.

Michigan Standard 8: Synthesizes and applies knowledge of best practices through standards
based work:
Goal: Measure the effectiveness of research-based strategies currently being used at Wolfe
Middle School.
Activity: Join the school data team to break down the data pertaining to school wide strategies to
measure their effectiveness based on student data.
Timeline: 2013-2015
Support: Have meetings to look at overall trends, and come to a consensus to see if the
strategies we are using are appropriate for our students.
