Other Possible Questions:
What was going through your mind while you read this chapter?
As an adult educator I have witness numerous cases where students success
was tied directly to the motivators noted by the author, especially enhancing meaning. Adult student will engage more and commit more effort if what they are learning builds on their perspective and values. How did you feel while reading this part? The author brought up some great points about engaging the student that I believe can be used in my daily instruction and curriculum development. Did todays readings remind you of any real-life situations? I was reminded of a class that I was teaching that the students commented on their course evaluations that the material was not challenging or relevant to the task that they wanted to achieve. After reading the text I see how I could have redeveloped that curriculum and presented it in a manner that would have been challenging and related to their needs if I had only interviewed them prior to the class. Can you think of another short story, movie, or book that has a connection with your readings? I am just reminded of Maslows hierarchy of needs and how students value there learning when it motivates them to. How do you feel these readings relate to our current role as adult learners? This chapter in particular has some great hints at engaging the adult learner that I will be able to utilize in my future instruction.
