VAGINOSIS
Definition
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is
the most prevalent cause of
vaginal symptoms among
reproductive women.
BV
(nonspecific vaginitis)
produces
symptoms
of
malodorous
discharge.

Gardnerella Vaginalis
Anaerobic Bacteria :
Bacteroides (Provotella,
prophyromonas).
Peptoccocus
(Peptostreptoccocus)
Mobiluncus
(M.curtisii,
M.mulieris)
Diagnosis
Symptoms
alone
are
not
Characteristic homogeneous
white adherent discharge.
Vaginal fluid pH > 4.5.
Release of a fishy amine odor
from vaginal fluid when
mixed with 10% KOH.
Presence of clue cells (at
least 20% vaginal epitelial
cells).
Laboratory Examination
Culture.
Gram-stained smears.
Diagnosis
Metronidazole :
2 gram single dose.
Or
2 x 500 mg/day for 7
days.
Clindamycin : 300 mg/day
for 7 days.
