areactingonthetoycar.

Studentswhorequiremodificationswillbegivenadiagramwiththefigurealreadydrawnonitandexplicit
instructionsforwhatprocedurestofollow.Thiswillhelptakeawaysomeoftheconfusionofdrawingthefigure
andallowthemtoworkmoreefficientlywiththeirpartnertodrawtheforcevectors.Thislessonisalsobasedon
SDAIEstrategiesasstudentsareabletovisuallyseehowforceandinertiacanberelatedtosomethingtheyare
interestedin,suchasNFLfootball.

Forstudentswhodonotmasterthestandards,theywillbegivenmoretimeontheblockperiodtorelearnthe
concepts.Thesestudentswillbepulledintoasmallergroupwhiletheotherstudentscontinuewithfurther
enrichment.Thesestudentswillbegivendifferentscenariosdrawnonpaperandbeaskedtoexplaintheeffectof
inertiaandunbalancedforces.Thescenariostobetterunderstandunbalancedforceswillinclude:kickingasoccer
ball,atennisballhittingaracket,andpushingachairacrossaroom.Toreteachinertia,thestudentswillusethe
samewoodenrampsandcarsaswereusedinthelabandredothelab.Thiswillshowhowincreasingthemass
affectsinertia.
8.ExtendingtheLearningEnrichment:
Howwillyoudeepenstudentsunderstandingofthestandardsandobjectivesforthosestudentswhodogetit?
Forstudentswhounderstandtheconceptsthatarebeingtaught,theywillbegivenasecondscenariotopractice
explainingtheeffectofinertia.Theywillbeaskedtoholdtheirelbowoutandplaceastackofpenniesontheir
elbow.Theywillthenmovetheirelbowtotheirsidecausingthepenniestofall.Theywillthenbeaskedtoanswer
thesameseriesofquestionsasbefore,buttheanswerswillbemorecomplexasthemovementisoriginatingfrom
theirshoulder
