Activity Type(s) and
Associated Technology:
What activity type(s) are
involved in this lesson or
project? What are the
associated technologies?

Consider Activity Types

Attend to a Demonstration students watch videoclips on their personal
Ipads
Discuss students will share their thoughts, ideas, and suggestions for
discovering the rules of computing with integers on the Discussion board
using Schoology
Investigate a concept students will watch clip and determine the rules for
computing with integers

See Activity Types wiki.

Practice Activity Types
Do Computation Once students have discovered the rules, they will
practice using them on a Smartboard notebook lesson
Produce Activity Types
Do a Demonstration Students will then create a video using their Ipads, in
using the rules for someone else to view and discover.
Describe an Object or Concept Mathematically Students will create a

glog explaining the rules of computing integers.

Apply Activity Types
Take a Test Students will take a test over the concept on Schoology.
Create Activity Types
Create a Product Students create their video to teach lesson for someone
else.

their Ipads.

Once all videos have been created after 2 days, we will move on to the next
level of computation(subtraction, multiplication, division). Once we have

arrived at the rules for each operation, students will create a glog
identifying and explaing the rules for computing with integers. After all
glogs have been created and shared, students will take a test on Schoology.

Optional Extension
Activities:

Students could then start writing real-world math problems that would
require the use of integers, and share them with each other to complete.

What activities could your

students do to extend the
knowledge gained from this
lesson or project?
Evaluation:

Students will be assessed based on participation in the discussion board.

p. 230)?

Answer the following reflective questions:

1. Which level of the SAMR Model would best describe this lesson? Why?
I believe this lesson would best be described at the Redefinition level. There are other
levels being used, but I think Redefinition is the one that is predominantly used. First,
students are viewing a video on their Ipads, and then reflecting and collaborating on a
public (to the class) discussion board to come to conclusion of what they believe the rule
is. Class discussion takes place, discovery of the rule, and then practice on the
Smartboard, which would probably only be substitution, as well as the practice
assignment sent on Schoology. Then students create their own video practicing and
modeling problems for someone else to discover the rule. This is redefinition as well.
Lastly, the glog is an example of creating something new, redefinition.
2. How is technology being used to help students demonstrate understanding of the content?

Technology is used by the students viewing videos I found on Youtube, of a woman

doing problems with integers by just using a number line, not specifically stating the
rules. Students then practice problems using the rules on the Smartboard, and also the
practice assignment and test through Schoology. Lastly, students create a video and a
glog that also demonstrates their understanding of the content.
3. Why do you believe the chosen technology will be effective in achieving the learning
objective(s)?
My number 1 goal as a teacher, is for students to learn to think for themselves. First of
all, students are motivated by using the technology than just listening to me. When the
students are able to view the video, they become actively involved in the discovering of
their own learning, and take pride and ownership in becoming problem solvers. Once
students have discovered the rule, they enjoy practicing on the Smartboard, rather than do
a book assignment. Creating a video, help students show they know how to solve the
problem. Ive learned more from teaching, than I myself learned in school, and this gives
the students a chance to show if they really know and understand the rules. The glog
allows the students to put everything together into a poster that represents what they have
learned.
4. Why is it better to teach the learning objective(s) with technology than without?
Students are motivated with technology. They are having to think for themselves, and not
just become robots of a process that I have given them.
5. How is TPACK being demonstrated in this lesson?
The content is the center of the lesson, with pedagogy and technology overlapping as
needed. The focus of the lesson, was the students knowing the rules for computing with
integers. However, I know that as a teacher, they need my guidance, and that is why I
step in and lead discussion, and allow for students to work together toward the desired
results. Technology is just a resource in helping students show what they know, and then
using it.
