Students will be able to explore and illustrate life
cycles in living organisms such as butterflies,
beetles, lima beans, or radishes.

3. Objective: Student Friendly:


I will be able to verbally and pictorially identify and
order the stages of the life cycle of a frog.
4. Big Understanding:
Use of the life cycle of a frog will help learn vocabulary terms such as spawn, larvae, froglet, adult, dorsal, and ventral.
It will also teach about life cycles, metamorphosis, and the similarities and differences of gills and lungs as organs.
5. Summative Assessment Evidence:
Summative- Group activity questions from PowerPoint. Pair activity when working on ordering
the sentences of Life Cycle of a Frog handout.
Formative- Partner activity for order of Life Cycle of a Frog handout (order by sentences).

Instructional Strategies / Student Activities/ Grouping Patterns:

Teacher Input/Modeling:
1. Introduction/Hook- time lapse video. All done through YouTube and PowerPoint on the computer with
use of the projector.
2. Objective 112.15 Science (b10.C)
3. Big Understanding- real life usage of knowledge and vocabulary.
4. PowerPoint presentation- Stages of life cycle explained and definitions of vocabulary words.
5. In pairs, students will put the sentences in order by labeling them with the correct number according
to a frogs life cycle.
6. As a whole class, we will go over the correct order of the sentences and see if we have mastered the
life cycle.
Guided Practice: WE DO:
Together we will go through the PowerPoint covering the life cycle and new vocabulary words.
Questions about background knowledge of life cycles of animals.
We will identify the different life stages.
We will discuss what are the significant changes observed during the different life stages.
As pairs, students will put into order they stages of the life cycle by identifying the stages through
word form (sentences).
6. Students will share their results to determine if they are in the correct order by matching their
answers to what the other pairs decided.

1. Teacher will check for understanding throughout the PowerPoint, including questions that engage
students with prior knowledge, and sharing their insights and answers from guided practice and
discussion with partners.
2. Teacher will also check for understanding by collecting and grading the individual assignment of
cutting and pasting the pictures of the life cycle and placing them in the correct order.

Students will get the Life Cycle of a Frog handout and complete individually. Once complete,
they will turn into completed work bin and finish any incomplete classwork or read quietly if they
have already completed all of todays assignments.
