ExtensionEVALUATION
MSUE nutrition education demonstrates that we are making a positive difference in the lives of
people by increasing their consumption of healthy foods, and improving their overall health and
well-being, In 2015, our program reached 61 Kindergarten ~ I* grade students (38 males and 23
females in three youth groups) in Muskegon (data downloaded on May 26, 2015). Our programs
were effective in improving children’s nutrition and physical activity behaviors and food safety
practices. The program evaluation results are given below:
Physical Activity
48% (23 of 48) children improved their physical activity practices by improving their response
to: circle kids being active
Nutrition
94% (45 of 48) children improved in their nutrition practices by showing improvement in the
following:
44% (21 of 48) improved in their response to: circle healthy snacks
33% (16 of 48) improved in their response to: circle vegetables
73% (35 of 48) improved in their response to: circle dairy foods
25% (12 of 48) improved in their response to: circle fruits
Food safety
51% (24 of 47) children improved knowledge or skill related to handling food safety by
improving their response to: circle kids who should wash their hands before eating
