Proposal to reduce bathroom accidents in hospitals

TO: MS. Vogelsang

FROM: Peter
Subject: New toilet
DATE: July 7, 2015

Introduction
There are many critical patients in hospitals. There are many nurses and doctors but some
dangers still remain. This toilet will provide solution for reducing dangers.

Problem
Most patients do not have private-duty nurses. Nurses care for patients at certain time. So
nurses can not observe all patients all the time. In this situation, a critical patient could pass
out in a toilet stall due to hypertension or other reasons. There is an emergency bell in the
hospital toilet stall, but the patient often can not press the bell. And nurses do not know
where he/she is. It could be a fatal situation.

Objective
Objective is to prevent dangers in hospital toilets by using a new machine. The machine is
attached on both side of toilet stalls doors to know how long the patients use a toilet.

Solution
I propose to solve these problems by installing a machine on toilet stalls door. The machine
consists of two main parts. One part is installed on the front of the door to indicate to other
people in the toilet that the patient in the stall is in trouble if the patient is in the stall too
long using a LED(light emitting diode). If other people are in the toilet and see that the LED is
on, they can tell nurses to go the toilet. Another part is installed on the back of the door. It is
linked with administrations computer. When the door is locked, nurses know how long is it
locked by administrations computer. If the door is closed too long, the computer sounds the
alarm. Also, nurses can open the door using the computer. With this machine, nurses can
prevent a fatal situation.

Resources
I need a database that can save the information about all toilet stalls and time. And I also
need two people who build the program that can manage the database and open the doors.
The cost for the builders may be $5000. The new machine is needed because it is a new
concept. The cost for the machine may be $20.

Conclusion
I can be sure this project will be successful because people think that safety is really
important thing in the life. This new toilet can protect critical patients by using a computer
and a simple machine. After this project, I expect all of hospitals to install the new machine
and program to prevent fatal dangers. And if this project will be successful, we can extend
this new toilet system to public buildings like subway stations, service station, etc.
