What is Glowing Fabric???

Glowing Fabric is a luminous fabric with the ability to glow in the dark. Designers use tiny,
flexible optic fibers developed for high-energy physics experiments and weave them into
ordinary fabrics. Power for the light the fabric gives off comes from an ordinary battery
sewn into the cloth.

Optic Fibers-18401954 1991

Optic fibers are the fibers used to create Glowing Fabric. Its a technology that used glass
or plastic threads to transmit data. A fiber optic cable consists of a bundle of glass
threads, each of which is capable of transmitting messages modulated onto light waves.
Up until 1954, Optical Fibers were stiff. Their new design allowed them to become
flexible. They were redesigned once again in 1991, and this time with photonic-crystal
fibers.

Glow Sticks-1965

In 1965 glow sticks were designed and invented by Bernard Dubrow and Eugene Daniel
Guth. The two patented the glow stick in 1965. Their technology for glow sticks will later
help with the invention of Glowing Fabrics

Glow Powder-1995

Glow Powder is a fine powder called zinc sulfide that usually glows an eerie green color
when the lights turn off. The powder now comes in a variety of different colors, but
green is the most common.

Inventions and Innovations

Over the years, many new inventions and different innovations had to be developed in
order for Glowing Fabric to come about. Innovations such as: Cotton, Textiles, Glowing
Power, Electricity Transportation, and Optic Fibers had to be made in order for us to
have GLOWING FABRIC!!!

Luminex-2003

Luminex is the maker behind the idea of glowing fabric. Created in 2003, Luminex wanted
a new trend that was above and beyond the ordinary. Their designers developed Glowing
fabric.

Glowing Fabric-2010

In 2010, glowing fabric went on the market. Mainly used by designers, it costs $330/yard.
Glowing Fabric was featured in Time Magazines list for Best Inventions of 2003. Glowing
Fabric was a game changing invention that required a lot of technology, hard work, and
dedication.
