BSN Program Outcome #1 Collaborative leadership

The main purpose of collaborative leadership is the management of intentional

and skillful relationships that encourage others to succeed. The outcome is to meet a
common goal and strengthen bonds. To meet those common goals individuals must be
knowledgeable about the subject area, and have good leadership qualities. Good
leadership qualities include communication, listening, trustworthy, dependable, and
accountability. The individual needs to have positive attitude, be approachable,
motivated, good non-verbal body language and the ability to sustain relationships.
Collaborative leaders need to be able to build and maintain relationships to continue the
collaboration cycle. The outcome is to increase the quality of care or improve services
and resources in communities.
One of the projects I chose to include in this section are collaboration with
Michigan State University to implement healthy nutrition education in kindergarteners
and first grade students. The other project consisted of a volunteer presentation on sex
education at Pathfinders. Pathfinders is a community organization with sub organizations
that promote growth and development in urban communities for youth.
The Collaboration Leadership Outcome was met by working with other
community leaders to educate youth on safe practices and health prevention practices. In
these leadership role my responsibility included designing and implementing structured
educational plans. Implementing evidence based practice, delegation to other volunteers,
preparation of learning materials and overall preventive education that can decrease
disease and health issues while maintaining quality and safe self care. I was also able to
network with other community leaders to help in the initiation of other community
programs.
