Formal Research Report/Proposal Assignment

This proposal/report is to consider whether going paperless is a logical step for our company.
As a company whole we will be going to a paperless system. By going paperless we will be able
to save on our paper costs and reduce our carbon footprint on earth. We believe also that by
going paperless we can become more efficient and cost effective as business.
I believe that it is very important for companies to go paperless as it does help reduce our carbon
footprint. Going paperless definitely has its advantages and disadvantages especially when it
comes down to cost savings and productivity. Sure it is great not having piles of paper but if you
cannot access the system to print what you need then are you really being productive and is it
worth the wait when you could have just grabbed a form?
Through online, library and ongoing research we will look at why implementing a companywide intranet system will benefit and help solve the problem on becoming a paperless company.
We will discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of the system such as: accessibility
issues, being able to access all of the documents that are required. We will also look at some of
the disadvantages of this system and possible security flaws that it may pose to users. Another
issue we will look at is how going paperless and using an intranet system affects employees and
if there is a learning curve in using this type of system.
Security in a paperless business is always an issue some documents that are proprietary are
susceptible to hackers and can then be spread to the World Wide Web or used in a competition
based business. Cloud based systems have to deal with security issues all of the time and I am
not a fan of using the cloud as a business for the simple reason that someday the cloud could be
gone.
