Introduction and Objectives of the Project:

In this project I will be discussing Chapters 6 and 7 of Dr. Rankys eBook, Project Management
Methods, Tools and Technologies, in regards to how the topics in these chapters will help shape
our company. Along with these chapters, I will show how Appendix C of the above mention
eBook will allow me to effectively calculate the cost of producing an RTPM canister based on
my process model presented in Assignment 1. Included in this project will be all reworked
assignments and also a report on the video conference I have with another student in the class.
Methodology Applied:
For this project I will be researching ideas presented in Dr. Rankys eBook, Project
Management Methods, Tools and Technologies and then applying those lessons to my company,
Real Time Photo Mails Inc, in order to develop a comprehensive project management and
marketing strategy while maintaining a useful and efficient documentation system. All of this
must be accomplished along with keeping the company on schedule and on budget.

Part 1
Chapter 6: Project Management and Marketing Strategies and How These Topics Will
Shape Real Time Photo Mails Inc:
The initial project management strategy Real Time Photo Mails will employ is the leveraging of
canon's knowledge to help us create a successful product. Since canon has an intelligent camera
currently in production, RTPM will work with them to define many of the projects and products
requirements. We will also investigate canons customer feedback and see what we can do to
incorporate as much as possible into our RTPM Canister. Our goal is to make a canister that is
environmentally friendly, but at the same time fun to use. In order to do this, RTPM must be
able to objectively look at what canon has done right and what the customers needs and desires
and then try to integrate both.
Real Time Photo Mails also plans to have a fully interactive website that allows customers to
build their customized version of the canister. Customers will be able to choose and modify as
many aspects of their canister as possible. This includes options as large as the color of the
canister down to the small details such as the use of LEDs for flash or locators. In another
interactive web demonstration, RTPM plans to show customers and allow them to explore how

RTPM has modified the normal camera into an intelligent, interactive canister. Customers will
be able to view each of the modifications in detail and how the new components are assembled
into the new canister.
Along with the interactive web application, Real Time Photo Mails plans to develop another
web-based interactive tool that allows customer, potential investors and potential partners the
ability to view and compare the environmental and carbon footprint cost of RTPM's environment
friendly canister versus a traditionally powered normal cameras. As part of this interactive
demonstration, we plan to include ALL environmental costs and savings. For example, we will
disclose the environmental impact in mining for the rare earth metals needed for the electric
batteries, the hazardous byproducts of solar panel creation and even the energy use of the
manufacturing facility, but we will also show the long term benefits of using this technology and
the overall net positive environmental impact. We will also prove we work with only
environmentally friendly, like minded companies to obtain these raw materials. At Real Time
Photo Mails Inc we believe it is important to be honest with yourself and your customers.
All of these tools mentioned above will also be available for our marketing and sales engineers to
use whenever they go to automobile shows or product demonstrations trips. At these shows,
Real Time Photo Mails Inc will do all we can to data mine the general public in order to improve
or product and also to find other photo mailing market in which to expand our product selection.
Finally, Real Time Photo Mails Inc, as we have stated in previous documentation,
believes in the continuous education and training of its employees; this especially important for
the manufacturing engineers and technicians. RTPM plans to continuously collaborate with
Toolex, Bell+Howell and Canon in order to keep informed on any new technology that these
companies have developed. It is extremely important to keep the equipment up-to-date in order
to keep production at peak efficiency and also reduce waste due to improper manufacturing or
assembling.
Chapter 7: General Documentation Guidelines and How These Topics Will Shape Real

Real Time Photo Mails Inc is an organization that is grasping the advanced age. We trust that

responsibility of showing the employees the benefit of this system falls to the managers.
Therefore they must believe whole-heartedly in the system and also be experts in using the
technology in order to lead the employees under them. RTPM will also train all employees in the
writing of proposals and documenting of processes, experiments, data gathering and reporting.
In order for all employees to benefit from this inter-connectivity and documentation system, they
all must be able to comprehend all proposals and documents written by other employees. It does
no good for the R&D/engineering personnel to understand a document if the manufacturing
department cannot understand and then translate that to an efficient process.
To ensure that the translation of documents and data form one department to the other is
understood and done correctly, Real Time Photo Mails will form interdisciplinary teams to work
together. This is important not only from a R&D to manufacturing aspect, but it is also
extremely important for sales and marketing personnel to have design engineers in their groups
as well. This will keep the sales personnel form promising customers more than can actually be
delivered. These teams will be able to view a problem from all angles and then be able to
identify a solution that will benefit all involved. It will also be helpful to send these
interdisciplinary teams to our collaborating partners to research any new or improved products
RTPM could use to improve productivity and reduce waste. After which these teams will be
required to document their findings from the visits and give their recommendations from the
visits.
One final point that must be made when discussing the creation of documents and
presentations is that managers must remember to include the time for doing this when creating
the product and project schedules. If time is not included in a schedule to write proposals and
document experiments/findings, then the recording of findings and overall efficiency will suffer
along with all other process.

Purpose:

communication, as opposed to a face-to-face meeting in which both parties had to travel to meet.

Discussion:
During the video conference we discussed our companies and how each was trying to be green
and sustainable. First we talked about Siddharth's ideas to create a next generation flexible
cellphone/tab/computer made of Graphene. He spoke of Graphene has high speed, high physical
strength and weightless. Graphene are taken out from graphite it has no adverse effect on the

environment. Also he spoke about the future scope of these phones and his innovative ideas to
overcome the existing superpowers in the production of mobiles and tabs.
After Siddharth was finished, I spoke about my vision of creating an interactive RTPM canister
that used solar energy to charge the battery that powered the canister's parts. We discussed some
of the challenges of using only solar energy and whether or not that would limit the market.
As we approached the end of the conversation, we both realized that these two companies were
travelling on the same principles and focused on innovation with green environment. Siddhartss
new phones/tabs were designed for larger load capacities, but they were ideal for the RTPM
canister which is my new product. I can use his version of new tablet with some customization in
my interactive console which will benefit the customers a lot. We continued to discuss how we
could benefit each others business model and also our goal of green, sustainable engineering. I
find it amazing that starting out, neither of us knew the others product and yet by the end of the
discussion, we were planning to collaborate and make an even greener product!
